Does Michelin own BF Goodrich and uniroyle? Are there any other tire companies that are owned by one company but make other brand tires.
I want to get 285/75/16 size tire. Any good ones out there. Ive only seen BF goodrich but at $ 157 a pop kinda spendy. A wholesaler will sell me some Goodyears for $ 99 a pop. Although I don't care for Goodyear.
Would like a Michelin the most though.

Michelin does not make a tire in the size you are looking for.

Here is what I know:
Dunlop is owned by Goodyear
Mickey Tompson Tires - Made with Cooper rubber.
I have heard the Michelin ownes BFG but I'm not 100% sure.

If you can get the Goodyears for $99 each I go with them for sure, especially if they are the AT/S series. That is a heck of a buy. Otherwise the Dunlop Radial Rover RV's get my vote.

Hey Jeff, I'm with you. I'd like to have a Michelin, and I'll probably go back to a 265 to get them. There is no way I'd have a Goodyear, personally I can't stand them (that is just a personal oppinion however). If you really want a 285, I'll tell you what I have, Parnelli Jones (after the race car driver) A/T. They're basically a re-named Kelly Springfield AWR tire. The tread is fairly agressive, but I've gotten a little over 50,000 miles on them, and still have about 30,000 to go - rotated every 10,000 miles. The only 2 downsides I have to them; 1. the tread throws a lot of rocks, but any A/T will, 2. They're not load range E, but I've had no problems. They cost me about $100/tire, and I believe I'm definately getting my monies worth.

You can try Bridgestone (which owns Firestone now) as they make a 285.

I can tell you that only Michelin and Bridgestone make a round tire. None of the other brands consistently run true. Spin them on a balancer and you'll see what I mean. Some brands are almost oval, with high and low spots. Then the unsuspecting consumer can't figure why the ride is so bad when they just had them balanced.
