Gee - you guys are making me feel ancient. I was in the Army Air Corps from June 1945 to March 1947. Basic in Shepherd Field, Texas and spent a year in Shemya, Aleutian Islands. Flew a typewriter, not an airplane. Discharged the day before my 20th birthday. Good memories but I would not want to go back.

Interesting Topic!

USAF '68-'72 3 years 11 months 27 days. Got out early because they didn't want to pay for all my saved up leave time and I went 'over 4' that very W/E. Kinda neat. #ad

13 months in Biloxi learning Titan LESS security subsystem and VLF, LF, HF, VHF, UHF
radios and a little radar (site security for the silos). Went directly to Vandenberg AFB in CA to spend the remainder of my tour. Ended up in the 3901st Missle evaluation squadron and had to test the crews from the operational bases do their thing in the command capsules. GREAT duty station. #ad

I STILL like Lompoc!

Tried to go Navy and wanted Subs but they said I was too tall. Still had lots of Diesel/Electrics in those days.

Ended up at a radar site in Point Arena. Was a hell of a lot better than being in Nam.

Was with both the Army Reserve and National Guard from 1965-1991. Spent the bulk of my stint as an investigator for CID (951A0). Grin, the only diesel in my life at THAT point was investigating fraud at POL points. Also picked up a chemical qualifier at the CBR school and taught Chemical courses for a while, competed with various brigade and Arcom marksmanship teams in . 22 and . 45, and also did a 5-year stint as a brigade-level Food Service Warrant. Retired as a CW3 in 1991.

Okay, a little late on this topic, but have been busy. I was under the impression that Naval service was just that, not "Military Service" But hey, that's splitting hairs. Was active from '87-'97 as a Nuke MM on The Pig-E (USS Enterprise) for 4 years, and on the HOTB (USS Mississippi) for an additional 2. Bought my first diesel while working with several engineman types. At least one of them thought my Pickup was underpowered as it only was rated at 160 HP. Haven't thought much of "Military" training since then. Am in the "Rocky Mountain Navy" now. In the Reserves, but as they don't have reserve Nuke ships, am now a Boatswain's Mate! My training went to good use! Not complaining, though, the day that albatros of being a nuke was removed from my neck was one of the happiest days of my life, right up there with when I bought my first Diesel!!! #ad
