I hope this is appropriate, but I thought I'd share a recent bad experience with 4WheelParts, which is why I'll never do business with them again.
It started when I participated in the recent GP for the RS9000 shocks and in-cab control system. One of the rear shocks was defective -- the adjustment knob had no "1" position. You could turn it all the way down, but it would move back up to "2" by itself. Also, there were no instructions in the in-cab control box.
When I got home from my Colorado trip and traded my 96 4x2 truck on the 01 4x4, I needed new shocks for the front. I sold the almost-new fronts for a fair price and discovered that there was a local 4WheelParts retail store in Oakland.
I went down there to get the front shocks, and to have them swap the bad rear shock. After getting some lip about the rear shock, they reluctantly replaced it.
To get the new front shocks, they wanted me to drive 20 minutes south to their Union City warehouse, because they had none in stock in Oakland, despite my earlier phone call to them to check, and their insistance that they did.
I also purchased a set of their nerf bars while there, and they too were at the warehouse location in Union City.
By the time I was finished, I no longer had time to make it to Union City before I had to be in Rhonert Park to meet Nowell (HVAC) for the dyno session. I figured I'd either go by later in the afternoon, or call the store and ask 'em to have them brought up to the store from the warehouse for me to pick up the next day.
The dyno session ran longer than expected, so I went to Plan B and called 4WheelParts when I got home, about 4:30 that afternoon. The guy I spoke to sounded very helpful and assured me he'd have the parts delivered to the Oakland store and they'd be there by 10:30 the next morning.
So the next day, I went down there in my Camaro (I didn't feel like driving the truck that day). Much to my chagrin, the parts did NOT make it to the store, and were still in Union City, and it would take several hours to get them trucked up there. I reluctantly agreed to drive on down to pick them up. Before I left, I asked them specifically if the nerf bars would fit in my Camaro. They said it shouldn't be a problem. I know that nerf bars aren't quite as long as the truck cab, so I could drop the back seat and do some funky arranging, and get 'em in there.
I finally find the warehouse (very poor directions) and get the shocks. Then they bring out the nerf bars. These suckers were EIGHT FEET LONG or **** near. Apparently, they are the type that run between the wheel wells, not just cab-length. AND they were bolt-on (must drill holes) despite the literature saying otherwise. No way in **** would they fit in my car. So I refused them and took just the shocks. Then spent 20 minutes just trying to get back to the freeway in heavy traffic.
I get home and install the front shocks without much trouble. I install one rear shock, and then get ready to install the new one I'd picked up. Guess what? They hadn't given me the metal sleeves that go in the bushings of the shock, so I couldn't install it.
The next day after work, I stop by the Oakland store again. Guess what? They don't have the old shock anymore, nor the box the new one was in that they gave me, so there's no hardware. The kid didn't really seem concerned about it. At that point I was too pissed to even want to deal with them anymore, and left.
Then I emailed 4WheelParts.com and told them that briefly what happened (minus the rant that I'm posting here) and that I needed the metal sleeves, and instructions for the in-cab control kit. I gave them the phone number on my account that they always asked for, my city, state, and so on. Two days pass, and I get a reply from somebody there saying I still have to call in to Customer Service and he isn't sure he can help me anyway.
Now I'm borderline livid. I'm ready to remove the shocks and ram them up somebody's @$&% there.
Needless to say I'll have nothing to do with that place again.
