I was over at a buddy's house tippin a cold one when up drives one of HIS friends in a Y2K Ram diesel. He's pretty proud of his truck and puts a pretty good wash job on it I have to admit. I asked him what he is planning on doing to it (as far as accessories) and he seemed to stare at me for just a moment too long and said; "Its fine like it is". We talked and he stated that he pushes a few cows and has a large travel trailer that he just love to pull at 70mph on cruise as well as his bull wagon, and just highlighted the great things about the Dodge Cummins combo. Stunned, I drifted off into reflectoion and wondered when I got got off the deep end with the 'modification thing. I don't have my 98' done yet but it will soon enough. With all of the TDR issues scattered around my desk and half of my favorites pages being diesel oriented, I ask myself... Are we THAT much different than the average diesel
owner? #ad
Searchin' for normality here...

Give him time and he'll accesssorize. You should have pointed out to him that boost and EGT gauges are not an option, there required.

Yeah.

And so is a PE box. Oh, and a bedliner. And while your at it, air horns, backup lights, tow hooks, tinted glass, a CB, injectors, front end leveling kit, etc, etc... . !

Come to the dark side!... ...

I got the same thing about a month and a half ago. I work with a guy named John who has a brother that has a '99 Cummins 5spd and a '97 Powerstroke auto(wife's truck).
One day the brother stopped by our shop to pick something up from John. He parked his '99(identical to my '00) right next to my truck,so I thought I'd go outside and shoot the bull with him.

We lifted the hoods of both trucks, and he quikly pointed the two noticeable things under my hood. He seemed a little puzzled about the Psychotty Air and cringed when I told him you have to drill a 4. 5in hole for it,but seemed understand the concept one I told him what it's suppose to do.
He then tapped on the Diesel Dynamics boost module that I have mounted ontop of the fuse box and asked "what does this Do?". I told him that I swapped in Diesel Dynamics stage II injectors, yada yada yada, and that little module helps me achieve 34psi of boost without tripping the ECM. He kinda chuckled and said "so what you gonna do when you blow up the turbo?. I had to chuckle at that-AND- when he said his truck is perfectly fine bone stock. I tossed him the keys and told him to drive it like you would a rental car.
He came back with a sh** eatin' grin on his face, and all he could say was "good gawd it's fast!".

John said his brother liked the power, but still thought his truck was pefectly fine stock. Can't win them all over,I guess.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought TLippy was at the keyboard again. #ad
Just kidding Tom... well, sort of. #ad

I was thinking of ordering a 2001. 5 3500 4x4 QC BLACK Sport (ok, ok... 6-speed) this time with those *****in' looking Garnet leather seats until I thought of ALL the stuff I would have to replace or transfer to the new Ram... think I'll hang with my present ride (which I like very much). #ad

John... never satsified with anything! #ad

... although, you never know, I may get a wild hair like MikeR did... #ad

What ever are you talking about John???!! #ad
You know me,I can't have a repaired vehicle sitting out in my carport. I went up to Oak Harbor Dodge, and they have an awesome Black 6spd 2wd Sport Dually QC sitting on the lot... Hehehe! Yahooo!!

I don't have anywhere near as much stuff added on as you,but it would still be a pain to remove everything... AGAIN! Well, that and the fact they were able to save all of my original paint. Haha! Did I get ya? #ad

NOT! (not unless you suddenly became single #ad
) Besides, there are three things I know you hate about it: 1) it has training wheels, 2) it's black and, 3) it's a 4x2. Have you gone mad?

I'm glad to hear they were able to save the paint! #ad
Remember when I said it looked as though they could preserve the original paint? heh, heh, heh. #ad

For those who think stock is "just fine"... I can't help but think of Dr. Evil in Austin Powers saying, "You just dont get it, do you?"

I've got a buddy of mine with a Cummins and he thinks it's just fine like it is. This is after riding in mine. Me and the wife had this discussion yesterday. I can't leave anything alone. It bothers me that there is a completely stock Eclipse in the driveway. She won't let me touch it. Oh well, that means I got more money to spend on my truck. Did I see group price on injectors #ad

I dunno, maybe the booming aftermarket buisnesses have tapped in to a select minority of the population. They have found us willing to spend hard earned cash on cool stuff on occaision and pump us with changes and advances on a regular basis. We love it! Are we the minority here? I say no, just MEAT EATERS! I don't have a clue why there are those who are satisfied with the 'factory' thing, but I say they just need to eat more MEAT and stand closer to the fire like the rest of us.
