Why are exhaust brakes soooo expensive? Homemade brake possible??

I personally don't mind paying for quality R&D if it saves me money in the long run, I LOVED my PacBrake PRXB and would highly recommend it, either way good luck with you venture, you had to dig pretty deep to bring this thread back from 2003!

i would be happy to buy a pacbrake if they didnt cost 1k like all others... just stupid money to buy an exhaust brake for 1k when really its a 250 dollar part... i can make one for 200 in parts or less i will be making one for sure unless someone has a smoking deal on one

Your about 2 week too late, JKosten just bought a Pacbrake from a fellow member for $225! Either way you will love it once its on

If you tow heavy in the mountains, the result is what is worth the money



The stock 12 valve springs are only good for 35psi back pressure or about 120 retarding hp. With 60 lb springs the retarding hp goes up to about 190. The 24 valve has the 60 lb springs.

Part of the cost for any machine/vehicle or product built and sold for US consumption is the cost of the litigation process in the US.

Manufactures need to have funds available to defend themselves from unnecessary lawsuits that consumers/lawyers will bring forth to make money at their expense. This not only cost the company money in manufacturing the product but also the consumer who buys the product. Thus the higher cost to buy any product sold in the US.

Ask some of the older man about a cut out that we ran on are car in the 50 60 You might be able to build your own. If you can get some help from some old hot rod. . They was hand pull and push to work.

By the way if that's the case, why are you worried about exhaust brake or the price of one?

The new truck will come with one already there. Go ahead and use it. It is built-in function on the VGT charger. I've heard it works better than the ones on the older models that we had to buy and install separate.

I've driven a few 6. 7's, never seen one perform even close to my PRXB , they work good but not that good

The 6. 7 w/VGT is rated at 150 retarding hp, the BD is rated 190 hp, not sure about the PRXB, i would say it is about 190 also.
