This has happened to me the last couple of times I go to fuel up.
I pull up to the pumps, take the nozzle and put it in the truck, select the fuel type and wait for the pump to reset. and wait. and wait.
Finally, I look inside the store to see if the clerk is still alive and she is waving at me to come inside. Apparently, I must prepay before she'll turn the pump on.
WHY?
I've never stolen gas(or diesel). Why is it automatically assumed that I will. It's a drag having to go in the store to wait in line to prepay, go out to pump the fuel, then go back in to wait in line for my change. Besides, with fuel prices as low as they have been, is gas theft still a major problem anymore?
There are a couple of places I've been to that do not require that I prepay and from now on they will receive the majority of my business. Even after I get my card.
I normally use my check card to pay at the pumps, but since I opened a new checking account here, I haven't received my card yet and am paying in cash.
