Question. If this question has already been addressed here on this forum, please direct me to it. Otherwise, here is the question:

Why is Fords big 6. 0 PSD allowed in California but Dodges HO Cummins isn,t?

And a second question: How much of a fine will CA impose on me if I buy the HO out of state and register it CA? Any way to get around this. I want the HO!

Doesn't the 6. 0L PSD already have cooled EGR? I don't believe the HPCR Cummins is scheduled for cooled EGR until January 1, 2004, and the HO apparently can't meet California emissions without cooled EGR.

The 6. 0L PSD also has a variable geometry turbo that the Cummins doesn't - that helps emissions as well.

The problem may not be that it won't meet the CA emmisions, only that Dodge hasn't spent the money to show that it does.

I think they figure the Ford won't be running full time, (spending a higher percentage of time in the dealer's shop) so it's clean enough. :D :-laf

Interesting comment. While having my 2002 HO emissions tested here in Boise, Idaho, the emission tester indicated that the Dodges that he has tested are usually cleaner than the Fords and the Chevy Diesels that he has tested.

Are you sure you'll be able to afford a new HO Ram after you pay your share of California's $38 billion budget deficit?

I'm a former San Diego resident. A beautiful city and I truly enjoyed living there but every time I read the recent news from CA I pat myself on the back for the wisdom of my decision to leave.

Out here in West Texas where the tumbleweeds roll in the wind nobody cares if I drive an HO Cummins, not even if it smokes.
