First timer here with new 2002 HO. Been a Chevie guy with a mechanical TD6. 5 in a 93 K2500 and was just about to build a 300hp for it when my little brother came up needing a pickup so I made the jump to Cummins as I have always had a secret lust for it's simplicity and power potential. Liking durability and reliability I picked the ST with a 6spd and HO as I have plans for a performance upgrade in time. Love the rattle but sometimes I would LIKE my wife to ride with me (I know, I know, the rattle is how we keep 'em OUT of our trucks!) and saw that the hood had no insulation. WELL, thinking I really got a cheap model I investigated and found all 2002's had no insulation and I would have to order a 2001 setup for 81bucks plus 15 clips. But why? Is it a heat issue? A cheapout issue? Anybody know? George

AAAAGGGGHHHH. Like what? Hey Bob, I am in Mount Vernon. Spent the last 3 years on the DieselPage. Learned a lot. Still check in there. Almost bought a DM but way to techie for me and too expensive. George

Wow, this is a huge forum. Megabigger than the GM. It would be a blast to come to the "bomb party" (what the ---- is a "bomb" anyway?). Now I just need to escape from the little woman..... hmmmm. Still wondering about that hood insulation. Anybody? Thanks for invite Bob. George

Bob is right, its corporate greed. Dodge was hoping you wouldn't notice the missing insulation. I'll bet a lot of people don't. The dealer parts dept will sell you the insulation, and all the other missing parts at flagrant prices if you still want them.

Check your local "Auto/Truck parts recycling center", ie boneyard for a "damaged" truck and get the insulation a WHOLE bunch cheaper.

I noticed about a year ago ....

that they were starting to "Save $$$$. " They also eliminated the rear fender liner and made the camper overloads a single spring rather than a two leaf setup.

geusterman, when items started missing off the late 2001s and people started noticing, some guys were successful in demanding and receiving hood liners free of charge. That was soon after this came about though and it may be more difficult to strongarm them now.

Other deleted items include the tailgate applique, trim molding on the bed, wheelwell inserts in the back of 4x4s, passenger grab handles in the cab, and the nice lighted vanity mirrors that come with the leather package. I think that is most of the items :(

You shoud try and make it to the "BOMB" party. I have been to several and enjoyed every one of them, I drive all the way from Pasco each time (can't make this one because I'm attending a graduation this weekend).

BTW, BOMB = "Better Off Modified Baby!!!"

I got my hood insulation with clips from my dealer for $45. I think they gave me a price break on them since I ordered the truck there.

I noticed the rear cup holders are gone also.

I'M CRUSHED! I was believing for some carefully engineered heat factor for heat loss through the hood (which is why I checked it out first) NOT just a CHEAPOUT! Geeeez. How much could they save on a hood liner? Especially with the noisiest diesel on the market they drop the hood insulation. I am going to see if there are springs in my seat. Drain plug? Filter element inside the oil filter? Air in the tires? Yikes, where else? I have the one leaf spring on my camper special with the sway bar under the rear pumpkin. Wide open rear fenderwells. Just Rhino'd the bed today and will do rockers next week. So high in the air with the new Toyo 295's I need a step but I want it tire to tire. Some steps mount so high that they don't do much good. Gonna Rhino the tube step as well. Need a tough one as this guy will be a working truck. When I find the front bumper of my dreams will Rhino that too. Graphite body with black accents. Love the truck. Totally rude and crude (been a gentleman Chevie driver for years but no more!). Thanks for input. George ( Will try to steal away for some Bombing).

You are all right!!! Lots of things missing on my 2002. Ordered the SLTPLUS &leather so the wife could have the vanity mirrors and the kids could have the rear cup holders. Guess what... . no go! Sat down withe the dealer and went through the BIG order book and to my surprise, the hood insulation, fender well inserts, double vanity mirrors, cup holders (most likely other things I am missing) were all included in the package ### I ordered.

Of course, there was a little phrase at the end of the book that read something like " DC has the right to change or delete any model or item at any time with out previous notice" of course, it was in lawyer language.

Got the fenderwells and insulation from a boneyard and the cupholders from the dealer. Only $45. 00 I think and the mounting holes are still on the bottom of the center console. At least the kool-aid doesn't tip over now!!!
