Today I shut off my truck, and when the truck shut down, the water temp gauge pegged to max, then I turned the key on again, and the guage dropped back to normal... then stayed that way when I shut the key off.

WTF is going on here????

I have so many stupid problems with this truck!

Chris, were your lights on? Mine will max out if I cut the engine and leave the lights on. As long as it is all where it should be when you are running down the road, dont worry. Calm down, have a beer, maybe a sorority chick to chase it. :D :D ;)

Welcome to the first gen trucks, with all their quirks. [note to self: Dont let Chris drive my pickup, as he will have a heart attack w/in a mile. ]

recently I was seeing increased pendulum motion of gage and increased swing of gage(rate and magnitude), still within normal ranges, but more than I am used to, thought my thermostat was going, turned out to be a poor connection at the temp sender on the back of the engine.

I'm sorry, I'm just kinda high strung and worry all the time about the ol' girl!

The lights were on, but it has NEVER done this before. I plan on installing a new t-stat housing and an updated t-stat.

See? I knew she'd be ok. And to think, I was 2000mi away and diagnosed it. Lucky guess, I guess.

Get any of your b-day presents yet?

Daniel

Ah just throw a piece of black tape over the left half of the guage. I have made it home that way many times. Wonder what all of the steam was from:confused: Chris, don't sweat the small stuff. Worry about parts only when they fall off. Case in point, never worried about the rear end making noise when I sent the wife on a 120 mile trip, but started worrying once I got the call the driveshaft was in the side ditch. OK, so the rear end was junk, but figured I could get a few more miles out of it.

Jeremy

I am worrying about the timing cover spewing oil, and the t-stat gushing out coolant!

I can't make 3k miles without adding oil, and I need to dump like 2 quarts of coolant in a week.
