Did your extended warranty pay off?

My wife and I have been considering an M2 for several years. I saw video last week or so comparing a 2020 M2 with 350/1150 and a new GM with their new high horse. They made it to the top of the grade about the same time. What a shame. M2 would be much better long term and drivability. Long term I think all 3/4-1tons brands ratings up to 35k are unsafe with 17" wheels and tires. IMO.

I would rather see FCA do better tuning on what they have. I have a 18 with 930 and when I have to get in it off the line it feels like a dog. My tuned 06 5.9 with the 700 Tow tune feels much better at getting things moving. Part of the problem is the 1-2 range of the Aisin seems really torque managed as the truck get moving pretty good once it gets to 3rd.

With that all said. Horsepower and torque are the crack for gear heads. Never get enough. ;)

What gear ratio is your 18?

Assuming you are referring to TFL? Just imagine if they had run the Cornbinder-olet 5500 with the detuned duradud. That dmax seemed like it was charging at the bottom, but the old Cumalong just kept chugging right to the top.

Where does this stop? It is just a marketing war to see who is the biggest, badest truck being sold today. Do we need more HP/TQ to tow our trailers with? NO!
Let's focus on durability, serviceability and drivability of the RAM truck instead!
Just my humble opinion!

I would Love to See a better corrosion resistance on these 100K$ Trucks!
Ask the sales Persons about this!

I am not into calling all other brands crazy names but, either both trucks made it to the top in the same time. The M2 had 4.33 gears and the GM had 3.73s. The M2 should have way out run the GM to the top. I think the same results would be with the Ford or RAM. It let me know that if we do settle on an M2 it will be with the higher HP motor.

We did test drive a 19' dually RAM with 3.73s and 400/1000. It did run thru the gears very well. If RAM made one available for $50k we still would not buy a new one. I am waiting on 8-10 speed and 50 gallon fuel tank. Our 07.5 is doing just fine.

Supposedly the 20 gets the 50gal tank so you are halfway there. ;)

We just got a new Cummins powered M2 rack truck. It’s REAL nice. Build quality in the cab is excellent.

Given the weight difference, higher profile, and the bigger rubber on the M2, I actually though the other truck would have gapped it pretty good. I hear you on the bigger hammer, though.

Some M2 examples from the web....

I think Ford has moved to the 3" receiver on some or all of the pickups. Bumper pull towing is 20-24k now.

I voted #1 only because I don't know the HP/TQ limits of the 2019 Ram drivetrain. Had to also comment that there is a bragging right with highest numbers that translates to sales. I'm diehard Ram, so I'm not impacted by all the hype, but I believer there is a target sales group out there that could be persuaded by the BIGGEST numbers. Lots of folks entering the RV world who are attracted by the HIGHEST HP/TQ, and lots of folks who purchase the BEST deal.

IMHO, Ford made two HUGE marketing successes: The jumped ahead BIG on the HP/TQ numbers AND they are providing THOSE big numbers on every configuration.

So, where do I think this is going? We have to see how well Ford performs and we have to see what Ram and Chevrolet are going to do to minimize marketing impact, like new marketing strategy, or either ACCELERATE or START next generation effort to go higher. Matching IMHO may improve sales, but BEST, HIGHEST, STRONGEST, LONGEST LASTING, ETC.... are needed.

Fun to watch!

Cheers, Ron
