Why is diesel so loud?

Saudi Oil/King Fahd

We're not selling either, but we are seriously looking into making bio-diesel ;)

rebelwolf has a free monthly news letter (pdf or html). This month has an article on making a liter of bio-diesel. To me, that's a great way to become familiar with the process before making large batches.

biodieselwarehouse has kits based on water heaters to heat the oil for $225 without a water heater to $599 with a 50 gallon water heater (makes 35 gallons of bio). Sure beats $2995 for the FuelMeister.

Well I guess I am the ONE other than the guy who posted this thread who was concidering selling my truck, but some on this thead makes sence, wife has been driving the CTD to work about 5 miles one way for the last 4 months, and we are seeing about 400 miles out of a tank and I fill it till it wont take anymore, but my wife is pretty erratic with her driving, not sure if that is why or not.

I think I will keep the truck and go back to driving 55.

We have had it one year May 12 and it dont even have 9000 miles on it yet.

One thing my camper is payed for and boat is almost payed for so that helps out too. .

NO!!!!!!!

Maybe if your fuel milage is that bad you should consider a restrictor plate, remove some of the performance modifications or install a BIG bolt under your throttle to not allow you to run wide open all the time. I'd rather drop the nozzle into my Cummins tank than ride around in a tin can on wheels Toy-Oh-Ta... ..... Andy

OK, I just got a flame suit. I know some of you guys have understood what I was originally asking and I appreciate your input. However, many people didn't get it  . I am by no means trying to compare a Tacoma to a 3/4 ton diesel. I know many people need to have their trucks for whatever reason, but I also know most could easily get by without it and these are the people I was trying to reach. I didn't think so many people would actually be offended by a simple question, but hey, I was asking for it I guess by implying that the CTD "might" not be without fault. :-laf

However, since I posted this question diesel fuel has gone even higher and I have grown to love my truck even more. It just sucks, the day I bought it less than a year ago I filled up for $1. 40 a gallon. :{ Gas is even higher, so I don't really look at switching back to a gas V6 as being a smart option at this point. I wish I had some stock in Vasoline these days. :-laf

I parked my truck all winter because of high fuel prices. also to save my truck being exposed to all the salt they dump up here in Mn in the winter.

I'm driving my truck now only because my car has a cracked in take manifold, and I'm saving money for it to be fixed.

I don't plan on selling my CTD. Made the mistake once back in my Ferd day's of going from a 95 Powerstroke that was very troubled to a 5. 4 gas

F-250 4x4 that averaged 10 in town and 8 with my car hauler. I owned and hated the gas truck  for 4 months before trading for my 1998. 5 CTD. Oo. I usually drive the truck about 150 miles a week unless on a road trip with the trailer. We usually drive the TDI for errand's around town and for non-trailer road trips. Take care everyone.

No

The highest #2 in my area is $2. 98 average is $2. 72 or so. I am investigating bio, used, soy, ... since I planned a p pump conversion anyway hopefully we can find something that will burn and not destroy our motors.

I need a truck that is capable of towing a car trailer and a stock trailer.

What could I trade my truck for that will do it any better or cheaper, nothing I can think of.

Besides, its the best darn vehicle I have ever owned.

Keeping it

I just got my CTD. I can run 70 MPH and get 16 MPG on WVO... Free Fuel. If the 16 MPG gets me down I'll drive my 92 300D MB that get over 30 MPG on WVO. Or If I feel an little ventage I could drive my 84 300D that loves WVO. Does that qualify me for frequent Fryer Miles. The MB's will go before the DODGE goes.

I had to drive a lot of junk for a lot of years before I could afford to purchase the truck of my dreams.

NOPE not selling.

But I AM putting a lot more miles on the Geezer-Glide this year.

Sell or Not to Sell

I'm Not selling I get twice the Mileage Of My OLd Truck. I get a WHOLE! LOT! more TOWING Power! It Don't make sence to Bale. Just Drive Less! And the smoke I'D miss the Smoke!!!!

I could not think of letting go with the rig. I have so much time and blood in that ole girl it is impossible to part with. Same with the Nova, it will just set more till prices drop. It sure does make driving it mean more than anything I have owned in the past.

If you own a fleet of trucks and each one of them runs 100,000 miles or more per year, increased fuel prices amount to a lot of money. But for the average guy like us who owns one truck and drives it 12,000 miles per year the additional cost is hardly reason to sell your truck.

12,000 miles per year divided by an average of 15 mpg multiplied by $1. 40 per gallon (last year's price) equals: $1120 for fuel. That's $93 per month.

12,000 mile per year divided by an average of 15 mpg multiplied by $2. 30 per gallon (current average price) equals: $1840. That's $153 per month.

Considering inflation (increases in the cost of living) over the years fuel prices are actually cheaper in today's dollars than at other periods such as, I think, the early 1970s. Fuel is also considerably cheaper than beer, wine, hard liquor, soft drinks, wine, bottled water, and many other commodities. Fuel is also considerably cheaper in the USA than in the rest of the world.

Do I dislike paying the higher prices? . . . sure. Am I going to stop buying it?... . No.

I drive 100miles one way to work every day and 100 miles back home and diesel is over $3. 00 A gallon here in Canada

Flying J probably likes me too. I've been delivering travel trailers all over the US and CN since early February. About 12,000 miles per month!
