Will not start

Tried to program a third key today on my 2006 2500 using the proceedure in my manual. After completeing third key would only let engine run for 20 seconds. Tried again and now none of the keys will even turn starter.

Disconnected batteries at this time.

Reconnected batteries and both keys work. New key will only let engine run for 20 seconds. Will not try again until I do more research on programing key.

I programmed a new key for mine after I had to pay $239. 00 for one and programming when I lost mine, can't remember the steps but it is in the owners manual. I was told at dealer where I got my truck that if you tried a non programmed key three times that the computer would not allow the truck to start and would have to be corrected at dealer. Guess at least that is not the case since you got yours going. I carry a door key in my pocket in case I get locked out and I sometimes start it with that key and it runs the 20 seconds and dies and I wake up. Hope all works out well. bg

It took me a dozen tries and re-reading the procedure three times to get it right. Timing is important, you can't go too slow or it won't work. Re-read the procedure in the manual and make sure you do every step exactly as specified. Make sure you know which light on the dash is the security light that the manual discusses, you need to locate it in advance (and get the right light). It can be done!

Bad key

Went to a key/lock dealer. They think the key is bad and will need the codes sent to them before it can be reprogramed.

Will try to find a cheaper option.
