Trailer Brakes - Open then short?

air over hydraulic brakes any way to do

I have found after living in Chicago... check your turn, then as you turn the wheel use the signal as a guide... . the signal will come on as you move over. I figure I warned them! I try and give truckers respect, they deal with alot of idiots out there. When they play the "Matching speed" game I grab the CB and remind them that they whine about 4-wheelers doing the same thing. Usually if you remind them of how stupid they are acting, they will straighten up.

I rode with my dad is his semi once going through rush hour traffic in L. A. With cars cutting him off left and right, slamming on the brakes in from of him, he's taking it all in stride... . I would've been trying to run someone over... . Then he finds his exit, puts the turn signal on a lil before hand and starts movin over, I see cars still over there in the right lane trying to pass him, he just slowly moves over and says "They always move eventually... "

Then on the way back comming down I-70 into Denver at night, we crest one of the passes start comming down, and there is a semi in the outside lane passing us, we come around a bend and there is a Dodge Dually with a goosneck horse trailer, heading the WRONG way up the interstate. BOTH my dad and the other truck immediatly let off, the jake brake kicks in and they get on the brakes, we swerved over to the shoulder, the other semi swerved into the right lane (the truck was in the left lane going up) and we make it around the guy... . Never been so scared in my life..... Both trucks where empty heading down the hill.....

I'm just glad I don't have to drive truck, or tow a big trailer for a living... ...

Just to throw in since I pull a heavy trailer often, my pet peeve are the idiots that pull out in front of me. They see me coming and don't want to get stuck behind so they hurry up to get out in front of me but they don't seem to realize that I'm a big truck with a big trailer and I can't stop like other cars so I need a little more room.

Had this guy just last weekend do that and then the light right in front of us turned yellow so he slammed on his brakes to stop. Well he pulled out and didn't leave me enough room so when he slammed on his brakes I locked up my tires started honking at him and finally came to a stop sitting to his right. He looked like he might have messed himself. ;-)

lizzy,

It was a Mercades for crying out loud, I'm sure it had a cruse control! My wife says I need a curse control :-laf

Some people !?!?

Fireman

Thats the same thing I say! The world would be much better off if everyone used cruise control.

You would be surprised (or not) at the amount of people that are scared to use cruise control. They feel like they're not "in control" ... ... ... all the while I'm thinking, "boy, you need to see yourself drive if you think your in control NOW".

I tell those people the same thing everytime, "you see those little buttons on the steering wheel, those allow you to control the cruise control, after you set your speed and need to slow down, press *coast*, release *coast* when your slowed down, press *accel* to go faster, there are no STOP signs on the e-way, or traffic lights, so there's no reason to touch your brakes on the e-way, get it?!? Now scoot over and let me show you the proper way to pass another vehicle!" :D

You are all right. Really a mess. Still the worst to me is the fool, in a rain storm, using his flashers in the left lane runnin 70 MPH. Tell me why run the flashers. I almost rearended a jerk using the flashers because I thought he was in the emergency lane. He wasn't. Left lane runnin about 35. I was taught the flashers were for an emergency. I'm turning into an old man and was taught differently. I've got to learn the new rules before it kills me. To me, this is the most dangerous thing on the road.

LOL, new rules good luck... ... ... they don't need no stinkin' rules... ..... they make 'em up as they go! :D

That's the way I figure I'll croak---- me driving along and giving driving advice, " You stupid ****** ****** what the... *heart attack* end of story. I try to keep calm due to the above may indeed happen one day, but hell, peoples driving habits are by far, my biggest pet peave of all time, sad ain't it?.

My personal favorite when pulling my trailer is the moron that pulls out in front of me when I am driving through a small town, I then have to slow down to keep from hitting them, then three blocks later they stop to make a left turn! All the time they are looking in the rear view mirror in horror hoping the big dodge pulling a big trailer doesn't turn them into road kill. All they have to do is wait a few seconds and let me go, then they could have a nice easy drive home.

The other is when going through a town at 30-35 mph, people rush, speed, cut off to get ahead of a big trailer, then about a mile out of town I catch them, then they are worried about me being behind them. They want to run 55 after speeding through town. Not that I get mad at people driving the speed limit, just those that break the limit in town to be in front of a truck. It's not that hard to pass a big truck with a car, if outside of town the truck is going to slow. Most truckers like to roll along, just let them get going outside of town, then you don't have to worry about them being behind you.

I swear that whenever I hook up to my trailer there is a sign that flips up saying "Pull out in front of me and turn left/drive slow/do something stupid" It happens everytime!

I regularly drive in Atlanta where we have some of the stupidest, rudest, most inconsiderate jerks ever assembled on a public highway. I used to think the majority of them were transplants from the North but I just drove through NY & the driving decorum I witnessed there was impressive. Most of the idots are driving expensive German versions of Chevrolet Cavaliers. Frequently, it will be a clueless woman driving an expenseive Japanese car. I don't guess I'll ever understand how a supposedly intelligent woman who knows anything about WWII could bring herself to be seen anywhere near a Japanese car, but I digress. I have found that I can maneuver easier with the trailer than without. I give them a fair chance, 15 seconds of signal which they routinely ignore. Then I start crowding the lane I wish to get into. Thinking that I have not seen their overert attempt at arrogance, they scatter like a covey of flushed quail. I get a huge kick out of this every time it happens.

Drivers

I started driving line truck in 1959 for my grand fother and still drive line over Donner sumit on I. 80 or 88 over Carson pass every day. I have come to the conclutin that if I have the room to pull out to pass I go, One. Two. Three. and here I come. I also do :) this with my 37. 6 Fiver. Dont have much truble when they see 80. 000lb tanker moveing over or the big trailer. Seen a lot of tire smoke once or twice. Think it is bad here ,go to the other side of the sea and drive on the rong side of the road.

Drivers

Well, it's that time of the year, going to head south from Tacoma Wa back to our home in San Felipe, Baja Mx.

1500 miles down I-5 thru WA and OR pulling the 5er and trying not to get killed by all the wacko drivers north of the Calif state line. :D Will they ever learn? naaaa

I'll say one thing for the folks in Calif, they know how to drive(Don't know how to VOTE, but they do know how to drive :-laf )

Adios, RAIN :p :: Bienvenidos Sunshine and 100dg temps :D

hey, I expeienced a new one this weekend

I was pulling the TT onto a local freeway with an entry ramp of two lanes merging into one lane onto the freeway. On either side of the two lane ramp is poured cement walls.

well there is this rice burner driving on my right side, 'bout even with the TT door. the lanes are merging and this "driver" is making no attempt whatsoever to speed up or slow down as the lane disappears and the choice is obvious.

eat poured cement, eat a TT side wall or slam on the binders cause I sure as heck can't do anything fast enough. guess what they chose ?

Nah, surely they didn't try to beat you to the ramp?

If there was a flicker of any intelligence in that roller skate, they should have hit the brakes... ... but who can tell these days?

no, the twerp didn't do anything 'cept maybe take the foot off the accelerator and see how close he could come to the wall and my TT. no contact but I sure don't know why... . then they just pulled in behind me, merged into traffic and went on their way.

Learnt awhile back if I let what others do bother me, I'm the only one's bothered. My favorite is the mergers. . . seems most think it means they just drive on the freeway and everybody else is supposed to slow down or change lanes to let them on. I do it, rather than cause a problem, but it may cause a problem for those behind or coming up in the hammer lane. Simple matter folks, get up to speed and find a hole. They like to take my right front fender off getting round me afore they run outta room. So when I slow to keep from hitting them. . . please understand and forgive me. I'm doin my best not to kill anybody out here.

Cheers,

Steve J
