Towing down grade, low temperatures?

Opinion of Airstreams

Thought I would let everyone who stores their camper for the winter what works for me.

After winterizing it, I again tucked it away in the barn this year. I layed dryer fragrance sheets around the camper jacks and shaved a bar of Irish Spring soap scattered around the barn floor. I have had no mice problems by doing it this way. Also have a couple cats roaming the barn yard... :cool:

Mine sits outside, I cover it with a HD tarp that has some 4-inch perforated pipe with 90* bends on each end to hold the tarp off the roof (add circulation).

Other than covering it, I do nothing else... but it sits on a asphalt driveway.

Camper burden.

I wish I had a place to store mine when not in use. It's been on two vehicles 24/7 for six years. Private storage lots here charge a fortune and my driveway is small. It is a popup but still weighs 2,000#. :{

Here is what I did to stop mice from getting in my 5th wheel. I had mice get in my 5th wheel the fist month after I bought it, after a very close look I could tell they were coming in the holes that have water, gas, and electric coming through the floor and walls, what I did to stop them was get some stainless steel SOS pads and expanding foam, I first put the SOS pads in the holes from the top then filled the holes with the foam (even all the little holes I could find) there is a lot of them, look form the top, then get underneath and look for more, when you have found them all, look again!! I did this the first year I got the 5th wheel, I have now had it for three years, and not one mouse has got in since I did this, and I park mine in a hay field. Hope this helps.

All I did to my Lance Camper was to unload it in my 12' tall TrailerPort attached to my barn, which also housed my previous 29' Holiday Rambler Aluma-Lite 5er. I never had anything get into them. We do have mice, ground squirrels, snakes, birds of every kind, cats and dogs being only two blocks away from the Rio Grande.

Jeepit, I never heard of using shaved bars of Irish Spring Soap, but if it works, great. Do you think it would work on ground squirrels? They get into my pump room and my hay storage room. I believe that a Lance Camper is built tight enough that mice could never get into it anyway.

Grizzly, I agree the Lance is built super tight. I have the winter package on it. :) The fragrance of the soap works well to keep the mice away. Try it with the squirrels!!

I might as well try the soap, I've tried everything else. Thanks for the tip jeepit.

Moth balls have been working for me for over 20 years..... for my boat and camper...

I also pump RV anti-freeze into my water lines. A lot of people just blow them out with air, but I'm afraid of low spots, also oily air...

I would love to jack the tires off the ground but didn't think of that when I poured the pad for winter storage... (too small)
