So I got off my duff and installed my gauges -- Isspros, pyro and boost -- in the A pillar. Followed all the good TDR advice and put them on the driver's side for convenient viewing. :D

Go out for a spin. Cummins and gauges are doing their respective things nicely.

Ding!! Lamp Out warning. Lights were not on at the time. Warning stays lit with an occasional periodic chime. Warning goes out. Comes back on for a while. Goes out. Flashes on and off (not with any kind of rhythm) with a chime each time. This is gonna run me nuts. Checked out all the lights on the Ram when I got back home (Of course, the warning light wasn't on when I did this--no such luck :( ). Everything is working fine, and brake and turn signals work whether the rest of the lights are on or not. Early on in the gauge installation I made sure the gauge lights were dimming properly and they still do.

Just to make sure it's not a coincidence -- not sure how it can be if all the lights work despite the warning light-- I'm going to disconnect the gauge lights -- first at the gauges, that failing at the tap for the hot -- and see if the problem persists.

If it doesn't I'm gonna need some ideas. Anybody had this experience? I've tapped the hot off the OR/WH wire on the back of the headlight switch and grounded straight to the chassis. The only weak spot I can think of is that after testing the gauge lights, I removed the connectors and they were just a LITTLE wobbly when I put them back on later--not the dead snug that they originally were. I'll see if I can snug them up before I reconnect them after the no-gauge-lights test and fill them with di-electric grease. I'm thinking that may not be the problem, though, as I've had a dash light on the tach out for some time and it doesn't generate a warning light. Seems worth a try all the same.

I've got this sick feeling that this is gonna be more aggravatin' than chasing down trailer wiring. Any shared thoughts, experience, recommendations of things to look at, etc. , will be most welcome.

Most of the time the lamp outage ding is for the rear tail/stop lamp sockets. First disconnect your wiring to the new lights and see if that fixes it. If not, you (we) will have to determine what circuit you tapped into, and see if that is fooling the front control module. The way the lamp outage works is the FCM sends a tiny current through the circuit when the lights are off and sees what happens to it. When the lights are on, it can sense the current flow.
