I bought the Mopar factory fog light kit for the 01 Neon. I just installed the color matched Mopar spoiler and aluminum SXT wheels. I also got the Mopar bra. It actually doesn't look too bad for a Neon. Now its time for some fog lamps. The kit comes complete with the lights, wiring harness and factory switch setup which replaces the entire turn signal/headlamp switch deal.
Its fairly basic to wire up. Dodge makes it so that the fog lamps can only be on if the low beams are on. Click the brights on and the fog lamps kick off. They basically get this because A: you have to have the headlamp switch rotated to the headlight position before you can pull out the fog lamp function and B: The power for the lights come from tapping directly into the low beam power.
I was wondering if it would be OK to simply tie the power wire that goes into the new switch setup directly to the fuse panel instead of tapping the low beam B+ power supply wire. There is an extra 12V power source cavity in the fuse panel so it would be easy.
This way the fogs can be on even when the power is cut to the low beams via the switch. There will always be power supplied to the fog lamp switch but thats not a problem since I still cannot pull it out unless I at least have the headlights (either high or low) in the first place.
Anyone see any problem with doing it this way? Its late and I'm not a wiring genious. I want to make sure I'm not missing something. I'm not too fond of pulling power away from the low beam circuit anyway. 12V is 12V no matter where I get it.
