Did it start making a noise? Did it just leave you? Did it make a clunking sound? Any sign that something was going wrong?

I'm just curious as to what to be aware of - if anything.

Thanks!

Dan

My son was driving when mine went and he said he just went to shift into 5th and it wasn't there. No indication at all except an empty hole!

Yep, thats what mine did too. Just like a second neutral. no noise no nothing. Drove it 600 miles that way as a new clutch was going in. I slapped a BIG magnet on the PTO cover when it came loose to catch any metal shavings and when we took it apart (thanks Dean + Terry) there was no sign of any thing stuck to the magnet.

Every time I lost mine I was runnin in 5 gear and it just let lose. Once I was passing on a 2 lane road and as I got up to the truck it let go. Almost got in a mess. It won't happen again. Transmission may fry but fifth is in to stay.

Was coasting down a hill at about 75mph with 25K lbs. behind me

& the ctd just dropped to idle. ( was not very fun riding the brakes

1/4 mile down hill  )

I was pulling a hill fairly hard at 65 in 5th and it popped into neutral. Absolutely no noise or warning of any kind. That was at 27k miles and it didn't do it again. I did the ST fix at 32k. The gear had been wearing into the shaft but the nut was still at about 100-150 ft lbs.
