Service writer doesn’t know anything. First come first serve drop off in the am same day free first change. Their oil and filter . I can’t see them using synthetic oil or anything expensive.

While at Bennett Dodge/RAM (Kingsland, GA) service department yesterday chatting with an ole’ Veteran. He is getting ready for his second retirement. They are using T4 (55gal drum) and the Mopar oil filter for 6.7L.

I recall my then local dealer in Iowa told me back in 2016 that the 4th Gen CTD Rotella T-6 was required to be used and Pennzoil Platinum in car engines or warranty was no void....

They use the recommended oil and a Mopar Filter.

Trust but verify. The MOPAR oil filter is the standard Fleetguard paper filter with a different paint job. I would guess my dealer switched to all 2019+ oil grade to prevent 15W-40 getting into them like the 2018 on down calls for. Or the lube tech grabbed the wrong stuff... But Twice? o_O

Two dealer changes in red. Known oil after and nothing "special" shearing it down in the engine. Hmmmm.

More Delvac 5/40 and a new Donaldson fuel filters etc etc What else should I do before that many miles.NEW gear grease ? Firestone tires should make it . Tell me true what you think? I should do Thanks

It would be interesting to know what Jiffy Lube and others are using in the 19+ trucks and filter. Or even the pre 19's for that matter. I bet it is scary.

In my years working for a Marketer I saw things that blew my mind. Probably the worst of which was the absolutely filthy condition of the bulk tanks in some of these places. Tanks with the lids left open so that dust and dirt could get in, shade tree drain racks that had been made so that every kind of oil additive or customer oil bottles that had been brought in could be "drained" into the tank. Every kind of debris you can imagine in the tanks from silt to shop rags. Tanks mislabeled and owners who would buy from ANY truck that showed up and had a cheap price, which lead to mixing of brands (good and bad).

My advice is to approach this as you would a place to eat. I usually go into the bathroom first. If the bathroom is a sloppy mess then the kitchen is more than likely a breeding ground for innumerable diseases. So when you go into a Fastest Lube Joint in Town look around. Is the guy or gal behind the counter a greasy mess? Look in the shop and does it look like someone threw a frag grenade in there? Are the "Techs" also greasy and sloppy looking? You might even ask if you can be shown the tanks downstairs if they are not on the same level as the service bays. I have been to places where there was an inch and a half of oil on the floor! If the place looks like a s***hole, look for another store.

I have walked into the service pits and found guys down there smoking weed. I still doubt that it improves the service, no matter how much it relieves their anxiety. I have even seen alternators being spray painted and reinstalled on vehicles as new units.

Ya would not take a loved one to a hospital that looked like some of the bad lube joints so why would you take your car or truck to a filthy shop? The shops that are kept clean and tidy with techs that change their clothes daily are most likely to give you the experience that you expect. It may cost you 5 more dollars but you won't have to wonder if Dwayne tightened the drain plug. My apology in advance to all of the Dwayne's. It was just the first name that pooped into my head.

With all of this said, most of the fast oil change stores are competent and trustworthy. You will be able to recognize it by their appearance and how they answer your questions. Support the good shops and tell all of your friends about the bad ones.

Back in the day, a fast lube place did a jiffy oil change on a Toyota Supra (5MGE) new body style! Double o-ringed it! Was 6 months to get an engine! Owner of car was trying to claim warranty but was told to take matter up with oil shop. Same shop did another Supra a few weeks later, this time, the drain plug wasn't tightened! Not sure if it was same tech or not. That location closed shortly after second very expensive repair bill! I bet the insurance company may have been involved in that decision! If a shop is not willing to show you the areas of concern, I'd think twice about using. Tech's that might be a bit greasy doesn't bother me to much unless it's right as they open for the day!

I will be hauling 3 k plus pounds for 10 k miles or more Service Manuel says change gear oil 36000 miles. I really think I would feel better with Amsoil severe gear grease 75w140 in the rear and and 75w90 in the front. I think my 22 3500 srw has 12 AAM in the rear No limited slip Probably should get a couple gaskets to have around from Genos My jiffy lube would change it out for me . Think I should carry the two fuel filters on a trip that long. Never know what kind of fuel I will get.

What else might be prudent to carry on a trip that long for a new truck? Dodge dealer in Whitehorse first 750 miles then once I’m passed Edmonton lots of dealers etc. But I’m a little concerned about the broken supply chain. Seems like fuel filters are in short supply etc

I was looking for fuel filters last night and was shocked to see the prices of them, one Dodge web site wanted $132.00 for the fuel filter under the hood, does anyone know if Baldwin make filters to for the 2022 6.7L?

ordered fuel filters for my 18 2500 in november. just got them last week. diesel oil is non existent here in colorado. shelves totally empty. still. and wally world price in the past month for valvoline 5w40 went from 28 per gallon to 42 yesterday. also, id stay away from quick lubes. they really cheese out on the oil filters ( china made ) to keep the prices down... cheers all! get your wallets out for everything! :)

Stick with OEM and don’t buy from the dealer. Geno’s usually has a better price than anywhere and you’re certain to get a OEM filter.

I suggest ordering an extra set and staying one set ahead on stocking them at home.

140 weight oil in the rear end? I thought the 90 is the recommended one.

It is (75w-85 actually, but I still run a 75w-90), unless it’s a HO DRW.

What funny is that we’re on the 4th model year with the 11.5 and 12.0 and the owners manual still doesn’t address what fluid to put in the 11.5” DRW axle. o_O

I'm surprised that Baldwin doesn't have a quality fuel filter for the newer trucks...

I’m not. Donaldson is the only one I’ve seen come up with a good cross for the nano-net media, but I haven’t seen them come up with one for these trucks yet.
