my 68rfe has never downshifted while the exhaust brake was on. in fact when the e brake does work if i upshift manually to pick up a little speed the brake will not activate itself again no matter how much speed the truck gains or how high the rpms go. and then if i gear back down the brake still won't reactivate. i usually have to turn it off with the switch and try again. that works about half of the time. the other half i have no operational e brake. i expected it to work like my '05 did with the pacbrake. by that i mean when it's turned on it actually works till you turn it off of hit the gas. but this e brake works at it's own discretion. maybe if everyone lets them roll down hill with the e brake on at 10,000 rpm and the dealers get to replace a few hundred engines the e brake fix will suddenly become more of a priority.

I know it's an older thread, but I wanted to try and post a pic or two. New guy here. Trying to upload pic of rear main seal leak bulletin. I thought I had the same leak on my 13 CTD and the service department gave me this. Hope it works. Turns out it was as Brockman said...assembly lube.

If you like spendong money on oil changes have fun. The reason they are extended is that running DEF makes for cleaner engine oil. Do you really think that Cummins would not know their safe oil interval. I have been driving big rigs for 35 yrs. When l started 10,000 oil change was standard. Today it is 25,000 to 30,000. It is called progress and better oil .Get an analaysis at 10,00 and go from there.

I agree with jacknife. I remember when the parts stores and oil and lube places first started the propaganda campaign on the 3000 mile oil changes. What was their motivation? $$$$$$$$$ my 07 ram 1500 hemi got synthetic oil every 25000 miles. I traded it on my 2014 ram 2500 ctd. The hemi had 184,000 miles when it was traded in. Problems i had? Broken heater/defroster blend door which is why i traded it. I refused to pay $1000 to have it fixed. My cousin drives a big rig and their company runs rotella synthetic and they do oil changes at 50,000 mile intervals.
