I have read many postings about how Cummins have solved problems for TDR members when the DC dealer refused to do so, or was unable to do so. Well, in case anyone wondered, there are also bad Cummins dealers out there. Following is a copy of my most recent communication with the manager (?) of the local Cummins dealer in Fort Myers, Florida.

"As you know, I recently wrote to Cummins about problems I have had purchasing common items at your Fort Myers business location. To give you a little more detail, I have been there twice, a drive of over 2 hours roundtrip from my home. The first time I called ahead to be sure you had a lubricity enhancer that I wanted. I was assured that you had it. I then took an hour off work to make it to your business before closing. When I arrived, you in fact did not have the product and informed me you would order more the following week. I bought a Redline product elsewhere. The second time I went to your business, I did not call ahead, since you are a Cummins service center and I obviously assumed that you would stock such common items as oil, air and fuel filters for my 24V Dodge Ram. In fact, you had none of the three. I took a higher price oil filter that I didn't want and left without the other two. I came home and purchased the air and fuel filters online from Geno's Garage. I really expected more from my Cummins dealer. It would appear to me that you have taken the art of minimizing inventory costs to the point where you are losing customers. "

I have been to all the dealers in my area to look at new Rams and none of them seem to know anything about the trucks [ I think they are scared of them and all drive wussy gassers(318/360)] Matter of fact-when I bout my '93 the previous owner told me to never take mine to J$#@%^ Chrysler ( I wont mention the name as to not burn any bridges) because he had the truck serviced there and the steering alignment was worse than when he took it in to be aligned! They also supposedly "turned the fuel up" which I dont think they even touched after being under the hood "rootin around". I actually heard from an acquaintance that this dealers "diesel mechanics" were bringing thier personal cummins powered rams to this guys house to have thier pumps "turned up correctly"! C'mon, this is pathetic. Guys, I believe that the only way out is for all of us to be our own mechanix. I wouldn't let one of these dealers or shops even change my oil!

Oh, and by the way, while your truck is at these garages to be "serviced", those "young punks" getting paid minimum wage DO rip the sh*t out of your truck around the lot and to the gas station---I KNOW because my bud down the street worked there and told me he did!!!

Just my $0. 02. Sorry if I got off subject, but I didn't want any of you guys to not be cautious and put to much trust in anyone.

Forgot to talk about my friendly #ad
service center...

I have not had any work done there, but I have dealt with the parts department many times. All I can say is my experiences there have been excellent. The parts guys are friendy & helpful, and are willing to go the extra mile. Most of them know me by name, and are always asking about my truck. They had a company BBQ there back in May, and I just "happened" to be in the area... When I pulled up, they gave me a warm greeting, plus a couple of burgers with all the fixins! If anyone is looking for a good Cummins shop in the Seattle area, check out Cummins Northwest, they are GREAT. #ad

Evan is the BOMBmeister. Even his posts are BOMBed #ad

Cummins NW is a frequent rendezvous point for the NW BOMBers. Sometime I hope to actually be there within 4 hours of opening time #ad
Get to see it in daylight, maybe?

I too have also experienced excellent customer sevice from Cummins NW (Renton, WA). #ad
The parts people have always been very professional, polite and very helpful. I couldn't believe it the first time I special ordered something from them... they actually called me , leaving a message stating my special ordered parts had arrived! I know that sort of courtesy used to be common place however, more and more businesses are getting away from that.

BOTTOM LINE: I give those guys two thumbs up!

I have used both locations and they go above and beyond in getting me taken care of. The nicest bunch of folks you'll find anywhere to do business with. I'll go out of my way to get my parts there and would reccomend them to anybody.

Ozark Truck Sales - Springdale, AR - gets a thumbs up from me.

They were not stocking the Fleetguard filters for the RAM until I called. They bought by the case and gave me a discount to boot.

I'm leary of all dealership mechanics.

I just happen to have a few of the best diesel mechanics in the country living within a couple of miles of me. One gets flown all over the world to work on diesel boat engines.

Helps to have one of the world's largest trucking companies in your back yard!

rogerblind, I haven't been impressed with the c dealer in my area, have heard service department is OK. But the parts deparment needs more product knowledge(one parts clerk especially).
Test went in to get The Mule and Liner oil filters,I have 96, aked him question about 24 valves filters for Dodge's. He stated that the 24 valves engines(98. 5 and 99) took the same oil filter as my Fieghtliner I showed him an artilce in the Power Up publication that Cummins sends out stating that the 24 valve engines in Dodges would use same filter as always. He still insisted the Dodges used the bigger one.
