2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission WORTHLESS Rear slider needs to go in the trash

I had a leaking rear 3rd brake light and slider on my 1996 and the 3rd brake light was fixed with silicone and the rear window was patched up with some silicone. Well, after big rains the last two days i see some rear window leaks again. I dont want to have a soaked interior again. I purchased a flat piece of glass for a 2nd gen and want it installed. What do i need to put it in? A new piece of rubber or is the back glass glued in?

If its a reg cab the window is glued in. If its extended cab its a rubber seal. The glued in solid glass has a pvc edge all around. Not sure if the glass for each type is different.

If you need to glue it in, use 3M 08609 Super Fast Urethane Sealer, not butyl tape. Also, you have to use 3M primer on any clean, new surfaces. If you trim the old urethane on both the window and pinch weld (assuming a used window) to about 1/6 thk then no primer is needed. The instuctions are on the tube of glue.

If its the rubber seal type you should be able to reuse the old seal if it doesn't get ripped.

I just had to re-set the rear slider in my 96 reg cab. The "pro" window installer neglected to use primer on the window edge and it delaminated from the urethane. Of course there was a tremendous leak. Not anymore. I did it myself, and the right way this time.

Came home from a seven month "cruise" with the Navy to find the rear window in my 96 Extended Cab had been leaking the entire time I was gone. so, after new carpet , I trashed the slider. The local glass shop put in a flat glass for me and they glued it in! Garunteed - no leaks!

Hence the reason I specifically opted AGAINST the $115 sliding rear pain-in-the-neck.

I checked your gallery and see you have an extended cab. The glass is set in a rubber seal and not glued like a reg cab.

I have to "sort of" agree on the uselessness of the slider... in a quad/extended cab. I still have never opened the one on my 3500.

The one in my reg cab was great when I had my truck camper and now that it is properly installed, doesn't leak. I can't blame the window for a body seam problem.

Slider works great for me too... had to break in thru there last year, saved my *****... got a key now tho heh. . had to seal it with some silicon, do a decent job and you dont mess with it again. . hint, a very small caulking tip works wonders

Anyone have the two sliding rear windows from one they have taken out? I had someone try to pry open the sliders with a screwdriver, and they ruined the vertical pieces where they come together. They didn't get in, but they messed up the frames. I need to find the sliders... . Help!

I have a slider window that has one of the sliders broken. If both of your little windows are ok, you can have my old one. The rubber seals don't leak and neither did the sliders. By the way it is the darker window for a 96,96,98 year.

Those of you that are getting the flat glass, were you able to find a tinted version? I have only been able to find a clear window at the local glass shops.

I blasted my slider out with a hammer before I ever stepped on the pedal, it's never worked right since.



I broke it out 'cause I got locked out with the rig running with 13 miles on it @5* in mid Jan. No way to get in and drive but to break it.

join the club... had to seal it with silicone way back when. Then eventually it started leaking again. The passenger side carpet and padding underneath gets all nasty and smelly. I had to replace the padding. When I added my sleeper, I had them put in a power slider that uses a rubber seal into the cab, no more leaks.
