if the tv cable somehow got out of adjustment could it cause some light slippage in the transmission? something happened and it won't up shift from first to second all the sudden and it will slip too if i get on it. 1995 47rh thanks alot.

Yes, but it the TV cable is tight, the transmission shouldn't slip, but it would keep you in first gear, if it was loose it would slip, but you would shift too soon. I am assuming this is on a RH transmission.

it will shift into second if i am wide open wound out and pump the throttle quickly. both symptoms popped up all the sudden yesterday morning. it was perfect before. it is zero degrees for a high here so i am preying its not going to hell on me. i am going to freeze and mess with it in the driveway. thanks alot

the cable is tight under the hood with the throttle all the way on. with the throttle alll the way on underneat has bout a 1/8 inch left? does this make any sense. it is just too cold out there below zero now to work. so i need to find out as much as i can tonight. thanks alot

i have changed the filter 4 times since i owned it. it has probably been about 20 thousand miles. i have one here and have been thinking about doin it again. today i drove it around and it won't slip like it did yesterday. but under alot of power in first gear it makes a big thud and it moves the truck around kinda. still no second gear without pumping the crap out of the throttle while up high in rpm range. i can figure on that being something caught in the vavle body. but the thud that it has now almost like something is skipping? that is crazy. i am more worried than ever now. any ideas on the thud dud?? thanks

what is the verdict on the full trans flush machines everyone likes so much except for me? do you guys use them. i have heard all kinda horror stories about using the flush on a high mileage transmission but it may be all folk lore. i don't believe everything i hear. maybe its time to do that. then change the filter after wards???

Do you have the spring on the TV valve? Governor pressure and throttle pressure control the transmission.

Each mph should be about 1 psi for govenor pressure. The TV/govenor pressure relationship controls the shift points for the transmission. WHen govenor gets high and TV is low it upshifts, then tv increases to a certain point it downshifts, this is a simplified version. Best bet would be get a pressure gage and go for a drive. You will need a service manual to figure out what the pressures should be, and where to tap in to get them.

the spring is on there but its very week feeling. i heard two different ways to adjust it. one where you want an 1/8 inch extra on trans with pedal to the floor and another way said to have it all the way out with no slack on the transmission with the pedal to the floor. right now mine has an 1/8 extra of play. i wish i had a manual have been planning to buy one. but i would like to know the proper way to adjust it for now. thanks alot

Allright here goes, I'll give it a shot. Disconnect the end of the cable at the injection pump, make sure the injection pump is at idle position and the throttle lever on the transmission is fully closed(this would be toward the rear I believe). Check to see if the end of the cable lines up with the mounting ball at injection pump within 1/32". If not, there is a release button on the mounting point of the throttle cable, push in on the release button and alighn the end of cable with ball, release buton. That's it. bg.

Ballpeen,

You said this started all of a sudden. On that note,,

Crawl under and check to make sure the KD lever is moving all the way forward to its resting position.

If it is, then most likely it is being caused by a sticking valve in the VB, or a stuck/broken check ball in the VB.

Normally a plugged filter will not hold back a shift but will cause it to run-away during a shift.

If you have the knowhow and a manual pull the VB and go through it. Check for stuck valves and balls. Also check the accumulator valve (above VB in the case)A real plus would be if you have a straight edge to check it for warping because if you have ever overheated it, the VB takes the brunt of the heat.

90% of all shift problems I have encountered eminate from the VB.
