I have had my AFE Stage II Proguard 7 set up on for a couple of days now and I see it is really letting some air into the engine, When you romp down on it it only gives off a little bit of smoke now, with the stock air intake system it would smoke pretty good.

I am liking this AFE set up, My mileage has improved with the AFE Stage II & MBRP replacement muffler.

Very happy with this set up.

Just installed the 06 stage 2 on my mega. I too have the MBRP replacement muffler. The turbo really whistles and you hear quite a bit of suction noise on deceleration. The fittings are all tight. Is this normal? i mean i can hear the turbo over the radio at reasonable listening levels. The truck runs great, just a bit more noise than I expected. I have read on this forum that a TAG may soften the turbo whine.

This thing really moves some air. Funny, many have reported little or no increase in noise. any thoughts?

I have a little more turbo whine noise with my AFE Stage II, but I have become used to it already and like the sound of the turbo. It no longer bothers me.

As far as suction noise, I don't really hear that from the cab while driving, I can feel the air going into this filter at idle with the hood up and put my hand on the filter surface.

Overall my AFE Stage II with the Proguard 7 filter is pretty quite except for the minor turbo whine.

I have had my AFE Stage II installed for several days now and have the turbo whine and have noticed the suction noise on deceleration. The truck is running great. I too am consideringing the TAG III as I have heard it will quite it some. Anybody had any experience with the TAG?

Do you have the air box lid installed?

I have the lid installed on mine and do not hear a suction sound from my AFE Stage II kit.

I've got the Stage I w/ the PG7 and a Torque Tube. What's the difference between the Stage I and Stage II? Checked a site and it looks that same except the Stage II has a TT the comes with it (?). More air flow??

Thanks.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is a TAG ?

For 450 bucks it better move some air... :--) I think my AEM Brute force intake that cost's 230 and 80 more dollars for a Pro guard 7 is a lot better. Anyway, to answer ACoffel's question. A TAG is a "turbo air guide". It looks like a honey comb and strightens the in coming air out on the compressor side of the turbo and is "supposed" to make the turbo spool quicker.

Thankyou CHOLMAN for the clarification.

My AFE STAGE 2 made the turbo whine quite annoying. I've thought about putting the

silencer back in to see if I could quite things down a bit. The truck did

feel a little more throttle responsive after this mod.

I have the stage I AFE with the torque tube. Ive seen the difference in size between the two is atleast two inches at the filter side.

Has anyone switched from the stage I to the stage II?

what if any was the difference in egts, spool up and overall power?

Just installed my AFE Stage II that I bought off eBay for $390 including shipping. I am very impressed but cruising at 70MPH on the e-way, I can see where the whine might drive a man batty on a long trip. Even so, it sure is awesome.

This is the first engine mod I have made on my 04. 5 now that it is starting to get broke in at 30k miles. I am not sure if I am ready for the juice yet but would a performance exhaust really make much of a difference off the stock? The stock sure looks pretty under there and I would hate to cut it up without some serious sense.

Loose the kitty and muffler. Install an aeroturbine muffler and piece of four inch pipe. Done and sounds great w/150 drop in EGT's.

Bill

LEWIS, YES-YES-YES. When i lost my cat and installed a 4" Nelson in place of the stock muff i saw a great gain in spool up quickness and lower EGT's. Thats before any other mods i have now.

I still wonder if ant one has changed from the AFE stage I to the stage II and saw any difference in MPG, boost, egt's, power or sound???????

I dont want to waste the money to switch to the stage II for no reason.
