Underwear Is Important!!

My family is officially homeless.

I was only 10 when the Fitz went down and remember watching it on the news (in Duluth, MN) like it were yesterday. My best friend's father-in-law actually heard the conversation (on ham) between the Arthur Anderson and the Fitz before she went down and was first to report the situation to WDIO TV in Duluth. I still get chills thinking about it.

Edmund Fitzgerald

I was 8 years old when this happened, living in Northern Michigan. I remember looking out of my bedroom window and seeing the one of the most wicked storms I ever saw ot the window and one of the few times I ever say lighting and heard thunder in Michigan in November. Trees where nearly bent over in the yard and the lightning flashed like strobe lights. I also remember my dad telling my mom "A ship is going to do down tonight. " I'll never forget that night. Every time I hear that old Gordon Lightfoot song, a chill goes down my spine.

I grew up in Detroit & had a lot of relatives in Canada that we visited, often. While crossing the Ambassador Bridge (from Detroit to Windsor, Ont. ), if you looked to the South, you could often see the lake freighters docked or travelling. I saw the Edmund Fitzgerald a couple of times.

It's kind of hard to imagine a ship that large going down.

My sympathy's to the Men that died, their families & friends & the company that owned the ship.

I heard that a diving crew found the ship, cut off the ship's bell & I think it's part of a monument to the crew.

Not only has the wreck been located, a dive team did retrieve the ship's bell, and leave a replica. I believe it's also been named as a grave site, so there won't be any more [legal] dives on it without some pretty serious authorizations.

I've stood on the western shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula and watched a November gale on the Big Lake. It's a good reminder of Mother Nature.
