If you have fuel leaking from the seam on the sender the sender is bad. I think most folks have been using a 1/8" NPT male to 1/4" hose barb, then running some 1/4" fuel line to a 1/4" hose barb to 1/8" male NPT. (I wasn't able to find a 1/4" hose barb to 1/8" NPT female. ) Then you use a 1/8" NPT female/female coupling to connect the sender to the male threads on the end of the fuel line.
Make sure you get NPTF fittings if available.
