John,

If you have fuel leaking from the seam on the sender the sender is bad. I think most folks have been using a 1/8" NPT male to 1/4" hose barb, then running some 1/4" fuel line to a 1/4" hose barb to 1/8" male NPT. (I wasn't able to find a 1/4" hose barb to 1/8" NPT female. ) Then you use a 1/8" NPT female/female coupling to connect the sender to the male threads on the end of the fuel line.

Make sure you get NPTF fittings if available.

John,
I picked up a small guage at Checker auto, its 1/8 npt and screws right on the fuel filter. You can only check the pressure only at idle, unless you hook a hose and run it out the hood. It was about the size of a silver dollar (0-15psi). My Stewart Warner guage and senders should be in today or tomorrow. How did you make the bracket to hold the senders?

I too ordered the stewart warner gauge and two senders from XK's over two weeks ago. The story I got was that the senders were in but the gauge was on backorder!

Hey don't feel bad. I order mine in Dec. Just got it 2-weeks ago. It gets better,The first guage was bad Xk's sent me a replacement and put it in and everything works great, now I am having sender problems,Talk to xk's today to get another one. I haven't seen a leak, but the sender is slow to respond. I will check psi with mechanical guage to rule out pump. A little worried when you start motor and it is on "0" and slowly climbs to 12-13psi(after 1-2 minutes and stays there.

I also had 1 of my fuel pressure senders quit. It had become slow to respond, then quit. I apparently had been reading off the other sending unit(after filter) and hadn't switched in a while. It wouldn't work, so I ordered a new one from XK. When it finally got here, I tried connecting a jumper to ground on the older sender before I took it off. It started working! That was 3 weeks ago and I still haven't installed the new sender.

It took over a month to get my gauge and senders in. One of the senders doesn't work right. The gauge fogs up in the morning. I just installed them last weekend. I am not to happy about whole process

"Westach Gauge Company," are you listening to the TDR? IE. , If YOUR company will build a superior 'Fuel Pressure' gauge and sending unit, they will come! (and you will make big $$$! #ad
)

I mounted my sender above the filter on a bracket and used nylon tubing to the sender
with the ferule type fitings available at any auto or hdwe. store. Have 13K miles and never a problem or leak. Senders are available from SUMMIT. You only need a sensing press to the sender, not a large hose.

I planned on using Steve St. Laurent's fuel pressure gauge installation in my truck. I received the gauge and one sender(it seems that XK's have a big backorder for senders due to lots of diesel owners showing interest in their product. #ad
Way to go Steve!) Anyway, I hooked my sender up to the inlet port and started the truck. The sender had diesel dripping out around the seam. I'm assuming this is a faulty sender and Hank at customer service seems to think so as well. I tried different size hoses and fittings, but got the same result. For those of you who have installed this setup what type fittings did you use at the sender end? How about hose size? I know 1/8 NPT to barb at the fuel filter, but there was never a mention of the fitting at the sender end. It looks like 1/8 NPT female to barb would be the ticket. Problem with that is I don't think it exists. None of the local auto parts stores carry it. Any and all help would be appreciated. Right now I can't find the fittings or get my senders delivered. (not counting the bad one of course #ad
). Do any of you know where to get a gauge that I could mount to the filter until I can get the XK setup installed. Thanks

John

I just cut out a piece of aluminum to fit the area. It wasn't the most fun, but I think it will work.

My guage and sender came in today, I ordered two but one came. My question is, which is the inlet hole and where do you connect the wire to the ignition?I want to hook up the one sender, will that work?
Thanks

If you want to monitor the inlet pressure, you hook the sender up to the port closest to the firewall. The outlet port would be the other one. Both ports have a 1/8 NPT brass plug in them. You can't miss them. As for the wires, I would just tap into the light that illuminates the storage console. That's what I tapped into for my boost and pyro gauges. Others like to go to the fuse panel.

Mounted my sending units right on the fuel filter. I used steel npt pipe. 1/8npt x 1/2 inch long nipple male to male then 1/8npt x 1 inch female to female then sending unit on the filter side. On the before filter side i used a 90 degree elbow with female on one end and male on the other end, mount the elbow to the filter then screw the sending unit to the elbow. You will eliminate haveing to find a place to mount sending units and running fuel line hoses. I found this method to be easier to install (I like things simple, for a simple mind). The fuel gauge (in cab) is installed with a switch to monitor before and after filter pressure. Ron

Forgot to mention you can pick these items up at any plumbing or hardware store. Ron

I was more concernd about the vibration from the engine to a stationary mount off the engine, leaks occuring from vibration where rubber meets metal, rubber hose deteriorateing, running the lines just right to avoid chaffing on other parts, rubber hoses possibly kinking. Everyone has their own ghosts to chase, do what ever method you feel is best for your situation. Ron

Hey Ron, I like that idea. I'm a bit wary of the bracket although it looks functional and effective. And you don't have to worry about grounding, neither.

My only concern with mounting them direct like that is the amount of vibration with them being right on the engine and also all the weight of the sender being supported by the thread fitting. JMHO - that's why I mounted mine remotely.
