Prep trk for cold

SpinnerII oil filtration anyone?

I'm fairly (over?)confident that I could knock out 22 or better if I had a chance to go a whole tank on the hwy.

I never would have imagined this kind of mpg from 150hp injectors and no electronics (no box at all).

Math-wise we could approximate what the hwy mpg was since we know that I travelled 100 hwy miles out of a total of 328 miles, and I average 16. 2 in normal short-commute-only usage.

ASSuming all of the above, total gallons used would be 328. 4/18. 3= 17. 95 gallons used.

Since I drove 228 miles at 16. 2 mpg, that means my "city driving" used 228/16. 2= 14. 07 gallons.

That means that my hwy driving used the rest of the fuel. 17. 95- 14. 07= 3. 88 gallons used for 100 miles.

That puts the HWY portion alone at 25. 77 mpg:D

Now, these are just ballpark numbers. But it illustrates how fast the average gets dragged down by the city driving, and how SLOOOWWWLY it comes back up from hwy mileage.

So, *either* I got some really great mileage on the hwy (25+, which doesn't seem likely), OR my city mileage is substantially higher than 16. 2. I've averaged right around 16 even plus or minus for ages on every tank that saw 100% commuter, short trip driving.

So no matter how you slice it, you can see why an average of 18. 3 in this particular case is pretty remarkable, in light of the horrid usage profile of constant short trips and cold starts, etc.

At least, imo.

Hohn, that sounds great the last tank I ran was 20+ mpg, split hwy and city and ran over 500 miles on a tank. This is about 2 mpg more than usaual with no changes to the truck expect new shocks. I think something may have happened to fuel quality in town. I don't know but let's keep track of mileage and we can see a possible trend.

My $0. 02

That's good to know! Maybe they goofed and got some good fuel in town. We can enjoy this until they switch over to winter fuel. That crap isn't fit to burn in a camp stove.

Well the last I bought came from the Kum & Go on Linclonway because it was cheaper than the Flying J were I usually fuel. Kum & Go was like $2. 23 or so and the J was $2. 31. I was suprised with the mileage. I put in $50 today at the Kum and price was a whopping $2. 49 same as the J, almost filled the tank about 1/8 short. I will track mileage this weekend on a trip out of town. I agree winter fuel here sucks!!! The truck won't start in single digit or lower temps without plugging in.

jealous, jealous jealous!!! i turned the tst box down to 3 and pu$$y footed it around town (except for a small romp session with a powerstroke for a couple of stoplights) and i got 14. normal tst 5-7 setting i get 13. 5, i even ran a tank on full tst 9 and got 13. i tried to run a tank on no tst box, but it was too hard, ended up turning it back on and way up! so i guess these 14mpg tanks are my fault, but after seeing this post i may reconsider...

running my first tank of fp60 in both the dodge and jetta mixed with some quicksilver premium plus 2 cycle oil left over from my switch to amsoil HP injector in my boat.

First off you can tell this is not your average diesel diluted stuff it is thick and smells strong. Amost reminds me of aircraft brand paint stripper jelly/ kinda burns the nose.

I mixed way too much in the jetta on accident 3 ozs for 13-14 gallons and I can tell lost power/lots of smoke but the truck seems to like it. Can't give accurate numbers as my odo/speedo is way off with the 36/14. 50s usually like 14. ? or around 380 miles on 24-25 gallons at 60 on the speedo truck seems to be doing 68-70 not sure what the milage loss is or even how to formulate it accurately I just change oil at 4000 miles instead of 5000 to be safe and drive it like I stole it.

OH, the smell!!! It's FABULOUS, isn't it?;)

It's like Marachino Cherries and Aircraft Paint all in one! Seriously, it reminds me of this nasty blue adhesion promoter we'd use to prep B-1B and C-130 fuel tanks for new sealant. Nasty stuff designed to etch aluminum. I'm sure the FP60 doesn't do this.

It is orange and has syrup-like consistency. Definitely not like the diesel-based concoctions like PowerService, et al.

After a couple hundred miles on the truck, I suspect you'll notice some better idling and smoother off-idle response.

I just put my FP60 in the tank yesterday. The bottle calls for 1 oz per 5 gallons. I added about 5 oz for my 26 gallons that I put in. Rivercat, how is 3 ozs too much for 14 gallons of fuel? It sounds pretty close to me.

I haven't noticed any difference yet. I have logged about 100 miles so far and it drives the same as before. All 100 miles were pulling a 5,000 lb trailer. The needle seems to show better mileage but it's probably a fluke like Hohn's truck.

I'll keep up with my findings.

UPDATE: I just put my truck on the dyno and WOW. The FP60 gave me a 57hp increase. Just kidding! Wouldn't it be nice to pour 60hp into the tank? I think so.

I bet being 2wd and 3. 51 you get a good figure anyway right? That truck must fly with what little mods you have!

I know a guy that has a well maintaned 1 gen 2wd and with only a diffrent turbine housing and small plate he can out run most anything virtually smoke free.

I usually average around 20mpg. Closer to 25 if it's all highway. I couldn't imagine getting the 14-15 that some of these guys get. I don't think of my truck as fast. I think it's quite slow actually. It has torque but it doesn't go anywhere... . especially with a failing clutch. I can't wait until I get a new SBC!

I ordered a gallon a few days ago, hasn't come in yet... How long did it take for you guys to get it...

We can also do a test out here in the NE.

At one of our Coffee Night meets, I'll get a few guys to fill up with me at the same time, same station, and use the FP60 and see what the results will be...

my mileage went up after the recent tune up, but I just ordered a bottle of the stuff ... with over 220k miles on the clock it doesn't hurt to try ... right? :-laf

I have noticed a considerable difference after adding the FP60. My mileage hasn't changed but it seems to run more like a sewing machine. It is so smooth when I'm cruising on the highway and the throttle response on boost seems better. This is my first time for adding a fuel treatment, so my system was probably pretty nasty. I'm going to run this tank out and change the fuel filter. I would say it's worth the $18.

This thread got me going on the fuel savings idea. I drove almost a whole tank 500 miles, very light footed and easy on accelerating. I drove 65 mph on the highway (speed limit is 75) and just let everyone zing around me. It's much more relaxing, less stressful anyway.

I went 498. 7 miles on 24. 787 gallons of fuel. I decided to fill up this morning cause diesel will spike either today or tomorrow because of the storm. I paid 2. 87 this morning.

I got just over 20 mpg. Pretty impressive. But my normal driving puts me at 19 or just under 19. So I'm not really going to drive that way anymore, the savings just isn't there.

This is with Mach 2's and a comp box on 1x1, stock exhaust and a 8-an fuel line kit. I didn't run any fuel additive either. I did inflate my tires a little, I ran 65 on the front and 60 on the rear. I normally run a little lower then that.

FP60 - Snake Oil or, Not? That is the question?

OK - I'm as apprehensive as the next guy if not more so. I've been following this post and decided to do a "very little" bit of investigating. Since Hohn first posted his delight with the product, I've seen others chime in with their $. 02, most of which support the product. I sent the company an e-mail asking them a question first asked in this post by member "RescueRam". The following is my note to the company and the reply received:

My e-mail

Subject: FP60 - OK For Diesels

Is this product OK to run in a diesel engine?

Does it prevent gelling in winter?

How does it affect cetane numbers?

What exactly is it comprised of?

The reply:

FP60 and LC20 were first invented for diesel engines. FP60 has been tested

to lower the freeze point in diesel fuels. FP60 has not been tested as a

cetane improver. FP60 is simple in that it cleans, provides needed

lubricity, and has the ability to increase the potential energy of the fuel

mix.

FP60 is comprised of petroleum byproducts. We cannot divulge what is in the

actual product as the ingredients are proprietary.

Sincerely,

Jeff Edwards

LCD INC

So, at this point it seems that the product will do NO harm to our beloved Cummins', it HELPs by cleaning, providing needed lubricity and may increase the "potential" energy of the fuel. With this info and the comments on this post from others - I'm willing to give it a try. I'll post data after a tank or so.

The FP60 was playing with my gas needle today. I was at 1/8th tank then several miles down the road I was less than E. As I pulled into the fuel station it went back up to where it was. That's the first time my needle ever told a lie and first time for the FP60. Sounds believable after hearing about Hohn's 35 mpg!!!

Trqmnstr--

I've had the needle do that little trick long before I discovered the FP60. That's one of the reasons I never let the tank get that low anymore, and I always set the trip odo to track distance in case the gauge fails.

37mpg? Who told you it was 39mpg?... ... more like 42;)

Anyone else who's tested the FP60, please report.

Got my gallon of the mystery stuff today...

Now I have to burn 3/4 of a tank to make sure I get all of the turkey frier oil out of there! :-laf
