Apparently from what I have learned is that the cab on the 08 is designed to be easily removed and replaced. That is good news I used to get sick looking at all of the pieces laying all around in photos taken by members of their 6. 0's at the shop. Also from what I understand there are a number of procedures other than engine removal and replacement that will require "cab off" to accomplish. Maybe one of the techs can weigh in.

I'm glad they're glad that the cab is easier to remove, for the tech's sake. What if you wanted to do something at your house? What kind of setup would that take? I'm thinking not too many folks have a winch in their garage, nor a garage tall enough to do it. Doesn't sound like the best way to go about it, unless you take your truck to a shop for everything engine related. The one quote inferred that the cab had to come off for fuel and oil filter changes. Did I read that correctly? :--) What a pia!

I sure the oil and fuel filters can be changed w/o pulling the cab. its just sarcasm from one of these tdr guys :-laf

I just hope the engine is not a pos like the 6. 0h no.

Yes unless everything simply UNPLUGS -

which it won't... ... ... I don't care how easy the cab bolts are - there are a whole bunch of hard connections - like linkages - BRAKES - steering - AC you name it... ... ... ... . not for the feint of heart and I don't think EASY is the correct word... ... .....

It AMAZES me that some of these guys are saying how good it is that for "regular repairs" wont require cab removal. But something like a tubo is far to difficult and technical to be done w/out it. But how nice it is that WHEN they need to pull the heads the cab will come off easily. I can swap a turbo on any of my trucks in about an hour.

We had to lift the cab up 8 inches but not totally remove to do headstuds and gaskets

Kind of off the path a little bit, but my dad the ford man said last night that after riding in my CTD that he would probably never buy another ford. Could have knocked me over with a feather. It looks like the family may be swithing to DC products now.

Here are some pics, you can see that most of the studs and pushrods have to be in the head prior to install because you can not get them in the truck once the head is on, So I imagine to do the job without zipties you would have to totally remove the cab

You know the old story aboutputting 50lbs of

CRAP in a 20 LB Bag - that's what is happening with these engines and the small size compartment... ... . why don't they go to a tilt front end and get over it????? I gues maybe you can't make em pretty enough if you go that route... ...

hell they went the evil opposite direction and made the front end unitized to the cab like a car, now a fender bender is a serious thing

You all might be interested to know that the local Dodge dealer pulls the cab to R&R the Cummins, at least the 2nd gens, I have seen more than one in the shop with nothing but frame rails forward of the bed.

There's an article in Automotive News a few weeks back that talks about how much testing Ford is doing on the 6. 4 in order to avoid the plague of 6. 0 problems (yes, Ford is actually ADMITTING now that the 6. 0 is a big headache).

Apparently, they've run 6 million "miles" on the dyno and 4 million miles in real life testing since 2005.

We'll see. I don't trust Ford one bit.
