Has anyone (other than Mike V. )tried running a TST Power Max adjustable or the new JVD box on a ETH ? I spoke with Mike V. thru several e-mails, and while he thought that the TST box was adding more fuel than the PE box, he said the EGT's were way too high. My truck's going in at the end of the month for the Mcleod install, a 3 piece BD manifold, HX-40 turbo and 4" exhaust. I'm also putting in the Bully Dog stage III injectors. For now, I'll be using the Edge EZ box that already have installed and really like. Any comments, as always, are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Let me know if you get any kind of major hp increase I am looking for enough fuel to run twin turbo's

wiz1... I'll let you know. I'm leaning towards either the JVD box or the TST Powermax but have to sell the "hot" PE first.
Do you know who is doing the fuel pump mods. that are needed for more fuel on the ETH's ?

Sheesh! #ad
Most people just stick their toe into the Bombing Pool and check out the water. Not you, BigSaint! You're diving head-long into the deep end!!!! Not to worry, the water's fine. #ad

Ross... when I look in the mirror and say three times "I'm not a bombaholic" I detect the faint smell of diesel, do you think I'm too far gone for help ? LOL
Thanks for the update on the water in the "bombing" pool but I already stuck my toe in several months ago with the EZ, after that it was over but the shouting (being done by the wife) #ad

Big,

The only place doing the injector pump mods is Diesel Dynamics. No one else wants to tackle the VP44 pump. You have to admit, there is alot of liability in tearing apart someone else's injector pump.

Why don't you just trade the "hot" PE box back to Edge for a "standard" box? Would seem less headache to me.

Before you go and install all the power adders at once, take a step back and try each power adder one by one, that way you know how each performance adder is suppose to work on its own. I would hate to see you throw the whole combo in together and find something doesn't work well with something else and not knowing why.

With the step III's and an EZ,you are going to find your truck is going to be too fast for any road or highway with traffic on it. So see what you think about the performance before you throw a box on top of all that.

Mike... I think thats probably good advice. In all honesty, I had planned on just driving with the truck as described with the above mods. for a while. Right now I'm just posting questions to try to plan for future bombing.

Thanks again for trying to keep me sane !!!

Scott,

If you've already got a PE box, then it's a waste of money and time to trade it for any other fueling box on your ETH, especially with the addition of injectors. If you don't have a fueling box, save your money and use it toward the reworked DD pump, when it becomes avialable. The ETH VP44 only puts out so much fuel, and NONE of the fueling boxes are helping it any more than the others. Fueling boxes only make sense on an ETH with stock injectors.

I will have dyno figures for the ETH with PE and DD3's some time next week. I'm betting that the power increases will be under 25 horse no matter how much the box tells the pump to fuel. Right now, injectors, HX40, and an EZ or VA are the best way to go with the ETH.

I just talked to HeberRam today after he dynoed his ETH at Edge. He is getting 20 more horse with DD2's and EZ than I got with 275's, EZ, and PE.

Bart

Thanks again Bart, what I figured but thought I'd throw it out for some extra feedback. Oh well, $700 for another box is almost 1/2 there for pump modifications. Looks like I'll try the above mods. and hopefully that will keep me happy for now.

Forgot to add... The only reason I re-posted this topic was to see if one box was making MORE hp than another with the ETH. I still find it hard to beleive that the EZ alone max's out that VP44 when some of the other box's claim so much more of a hp increase on the ETH. I now realize that piggybacking a EZ with any other box on the ETH will be a low gain. Would any one single box provide a higher hp gain than just the EZ ?

Hey scott are you going to send your pump off to the boys to have it tweeked once you get the setup running let me know how you like the HX40 EZ and DD3's omne thing you will need to do is upgrade the fuel lines I have seen as low as 4lbs of fuel pressure I will be putting in the psycotty next to see what it will do for my egts

All you ETH boy,s should think about putting a ETC pump on your trucks. So far on my truck it didn,t matter what injectors or plug-in boxes that I used,a hot programed clip-on box adds 100hp. If you can only pick up 20,thats a 80hp difference. You can also have the pump modified for more power.

Sport Bike, I think that's a good suggestion as it would probably just be a direct bolt-on. Wish I'd have thought of it. Marco claims the ECMs are identical between both engines. It's downright fustrating, after you've paid extra for the ETH, when an ETC with the same mods makes more power.

Scott, some boxes may indeed make more power on the ETH, but only with stock injectors. Actually the PE will make more power than the EZ on an otherwise stock engine. After you change the injectors everything changes concerning the boxes.

sport bike... I've thought of it but was unsure of compatability issues. What's an ETC pump go for? I thought that I heard our fuel pumps cost around $1500 or is that the price to upgrade an existing pump? No doubt on the frustration level. For a "bomb'er" you would be better going with a 5 speed ETC. I never would have figured that and I have to laugh when I read the VP44 is designed to increase performance. LOL

Bart... I am real new to diesel engines ( this is my first and I've only had her for 4 months now). Why is it that the injectors change the picture when you swap from stock to custom ? I'm not questioning you, just trying to understand.

wiz1... I'm not ready to modify the pump yet, but may be look'in that way sometime in the future. I'll post an update, when the planned upgrades are all installed and "road tested".

Thanks again to all that replied !!!
