I had the trans fluid/filter changed at the dealer 2 weeks ago. I noticed last week that at 2200 rpm & 80 mph, when I pushed on the go-pedal the engine would rev up about 250 more rpm and then the truck would begin to increase in speed. Additionally, just driving along with the cruise control on, again at the 2200 rpm, the engine would increase in revs 125 to 250 rpm.



I took it back to the dealer and they told me they plugged their diagnostic computer into it and didn't see where it was slipping, and suggested it may be the "normal" tc lock/unlock. They also test drove it and couldn't feel any slipping.



All of you trans experts/gurus out there: What's going on? What can/should I do or expect. :confused: :confused: :confused:

Question???

Something is slipping, probably the torque converter, I would ask the dealer if he put the correct type atf in the trans. bg
 
This may sound dumb, but did you check the transmission fluid level? If not this could be the problem... . Another thought would be the dealer used ATF +4 and it is causing your TC to slip.

check fluid level:rolleyes: worked at dealers for years, and the lube boy aint that bright.



i have also been thinking that the atf+4 is slipping in my wifes '96 zj
 
I appreciate the responses.



The first thing I did was to check the transmission juice (hot and in neutral) - it was a quart low. I put a quart of QC ATF+3 in and it seemed to help for a little while. Then it started again.



It doesn't "slip" all the time - like coming in to work today, it worked fine for most of the drive in then "slipped" just a couple of times.



I'll try to find out which juice the stealer put in it and if it is +4, I'll go ahead and re-drain it all out and put in +3. Hopefully, they didn't screw up the TC.

What do you suppose the odds are that the stealer will admit using 4+???? Might ask the mechanic, but bet he wouldn't admit it either... ... ... ... ... ... ... . my 2 cents! R, J. B.
 
What's wrong with ATF 4?

Are you saying that ATF 4 shouldn't be use period or just not in his 99? I thought they wanted ATF 4 in 2001 and newer trannies?
 
ATF+4 should be used in 2000 and newer trucks.

Until now, vehicles originally filled with ATF+2 or ATF+3 were to be serviced with ATF+3. Effective immediately, it is recommended that all vehicles with Chrysler automatic transmissions except for 1999 and earlier minivans be serviced with ATF+4®. ATF+3 should continue to be used for 1999 and earlier minivans because of the potential for torque converter shudder during break in. Maybe a little off subject, but I used +3 on my first filter change - per the manual. This spring I used +4 per the updated info. I have noticed that it now takes a little longer for it to shift into OD than it did before. I like the way it shifts now better - I always thought it shifted into OD too soon before. So, it seems to me like the change to +4 may have affected the shifting a little. For whatever that's worth.
