Interesting Story

Augh S&#$--No internal TDR links Work!

In the main forum you will see a post that expresses concern/ upset over the posting of members last names, many members agree, as I do, that our 35 dollars is not being used with our best interest in mind. Please contact TDR (our club) and let them know your feelings on this one. If we were a public forum we could keep our name out, here we are paying for our privacy to be infringed upon. I personally will no longer be a member of this "club" as I see where it is going... down the path of thoughtlessness and/or stupidity... with my and your 35 bucks paying for it.

TDR: REMOVE MY NAME AT ONCE, YOU ARE NOT TO CONTROL MY PRIVACY WHILE I DO NOTHING ABOUT IT... . REFUND MY $35. 00 AS I DID NOT JOIN TO BE CONTROLLED!

* PLEASE NOTE: A COPY OF THIS POST IS ON RECORD AND WILL REMAIN AS IT MAY BE NEEDED AT A LATER DATE.

I see no invasion of my privacy on TDR's discussion forum. I am in the phone book, my credit/debit cards have my name on them as does my license frame on the SUV. There is a mailbox on the highway that says "WRIGHT" right on top and anyone I meet is told my name. If someone E-mails me... I generally reply and and sign my name. Now..... addresses, phone numbers, SS number, bank accounts, etc... ... that might be something to concern me. So... I don't mind that my name is on display. If there is some legitimate reason that I should be upset at my name being on display, please tell me... I really don't know.

Utah Willie... I agree with you! In this day and age, if someone wants to find out about you, all they have to do is turn to the internet... look up everything on you. I have found several old friends from the service. There is a ton of info on us that can be found... it just takes a bit of effort.

I, too, sign my name to emails.

If I would have known about my last name being displayed I would have not came up with a screen name. I see people every day complain about little stuff:( . I have spent more money over the years on truck magazines and never received anything close to the information I received here BEFORE joining. This is $35 well spent :D . I used to repo cars (I miss it), it is not very difficult to find someone. Even their friends  , which is usually where they try to hide the vehicle.

I dont have anything to hide :p . Thanks TDR for a GREAT and INFORMATIVE Website. .

Why is it that when our government meddles in our business the above people, chances are, would be bothered? Yes, the info is there for the taking, does that make it reasonable to post it in blatent disregard for all members. There are still the folks out there that may not have the resources to track an indivdual, why then make it so easy, or for that matter why have someone make your choices? Willie, I find it interesting that a man from Utah would display such a laid back "take it" attitude. This is the land of the free and that includes freedom of making YOUR own choices.

Do the rest of you folks have Ms. Reno over for dinner or something?

Well when the government messes with my life I do have a say in it. I can vote em out. But here it is just like a private business. If you don't like it go somewhere else. If i'm not mistaken this is a private business and you can support it or not. There is nothing I hate more than someone coming into my store and telling me how I should run it. If the people here at TDR want to run this place with real names, FINE. If I don't like it I will leave. It is called free enterprise. If enough people don't like what TDR does then there will be someone put up another site and this one will go down hill. I have been in private business for 26 years and I have always said they ought to pass a law and make everyone work in a store for the public for at least one year before they are allowed to buy anything in a store. It would make them better customers and understand what it is like to wait on the public.

Thanks I feel better now.

If the government or anybody else wants to find me or information about me, they are probably not going to read discussion forums on the TDR to find me

I make my living by staying in communication with a large group of people. When the phone rings I answer it. When I receive an e-mail message I answer it. When I send a message I sign it with full name and address to anyone I think might not have it. I instruct the agencies I work through to give my phone number to anyone who asks for it.

However, I respect the right of others to their privacy and believe any group to which they belong should also.

TDR if a customer, your members, requests privacy, grant it.

For my part you may pass my personal information to anyone who wants it, especially those who have high paid consulting jobs to offer. Will be available around July 1. Resume available on request.

Anonymity is the bane of civility. Anonymous folks on the Internet seem to be the rudest. Anonymity to some, is a license to be rude, vulgar, etc. A person can have a good name or a bad one, depending on their actions over their lifetime. However, the rules changed on '956Wheel, and I can understand someone being upset when they feel caught in a predicament not of their making. But like Murle stated, this is a free enterprise and they will package it the way they see fit. We as members can either accept it or reject it. I think the vast majority of members will accept it and move on. I personally applaud the decision to use a members given name along with a handle if they choose, but that's just my opinion. It's true, we do have moderators that police the board, but a persons good name does more.

956Wheel... . with the above said, why do you feel we should make the same choices as YOU???

If you are worried, do something about it. You have fairly cautioned us.

As far as dinner guests, sure, why not. Maybe we could swap guests the next night... would you mind sharing Mr. Clinton, etc, with us?

I agree that it is no big deal. Although I dont see why they are posting our last names in the first place.

I have nothing to hide, well, i did own several chevys, but other then that... .

Both sides to this story have valid points and I for one value this site and the wealth of information here so as much as I would prefer not to have my name up there its a small problem for me.

I have seen way to many people get e mail from companies and private individuals that they have never heard of that the privacy thing seems to have disappeared. BUT I STILL DONT LIKE IT.

While we're all posting opinions...

I don't really care and I think the "last name being posted" horse has been beaten to death. I think I saw on one of the previous threads about this tired topic where TDR said that they would look at this as soon as they get done pulling their hair out getting the server bugs out. Personaly, I think that's fair. I would rather they spend their time getting the server up where I can have my "fix" than leave the server stalling every 5 seconds so they can address this issue. Having Ms. Reno over? Maybe I missed something here 'cause I don't see what that has to do with the price of tea in China. The government being overly oppressive (which I think it is, by the way) and the TDR posting our last names? After some of my posts about the government's activities, I'm sure I'm on several of their lists already :D
