Interesting Story

Augh S&#$--No internal TDR links Work!

WOW, when I first joined I used a handle so certain people couldn't track the progress of my monster Dodge. Had I have known that my name was going to be posted along with my mildly bombed void my warranty equipment now that you know who I really am, I might of reconsidered. This might be of no concern to some but I think I would rather have my name left off, no offense. I only have a little bit to hide. (about 100hp worth) Thanks!!!

Well bros it is apparent that the "powers that be" are in agreeance with the folks that wish to not have their names posted. I have been "flamed" on this one, but thats allright I got broad shoulders. Paranoid? Those who continue to roll over and play dead are the same ones that more than likely do not vote, participate, and remain in control of their lives. There are governments and people who will welcome you with open arms, however this country is not one of those. Free enterprise? Right to privacy? A hypocracy at best, however I choose the latter.

It's a funny thing... freedom, seems to end along with common sense! Think about it.

Maybe it's just me, but i myself don't have a problem with having last names being displayed. I can understand some peoples concerns but i guess something can be worked out. With me having a unique last name of Pancake, i don't care either way. In fact the more people that see it the better. I get some weird looks from people because they just don't believe me until i show them some kind of i. d. Keep up the good work guys. This site is great.

Chris

I guess I'm a little slow on the up take, I read the rules of engagement for this group? and joined with full knowledge that I would have to use my full name and excepted that. I figured so has everyone else small price for the education I've received.

I'm in hiding but have nothing to hide. So post my last name, if you wish.

Missouri Mule is my truck, Bill "Wild Bil" Thomas is the Driver. :D

BTW I don't live in Missouri so if your looking for me don't start there.

Look in Oviedo I usually hang out there 12 to 16 hrs a day.

The statements, opinions, post , replies ... are Missouri Mule's I just relay what his/her thoughts are on a subject. ;)

(The Mule is in Oviedo 12 to 16 hrs a day too. Unless he/she is actually working for a change. )

I also agree with Willie. The people who is in reading this website are not the people you want to hide from anyway. That would be the government, whom you can't hide from anyway. Thats why someone years ago dreamed up the idea or manditory drivers licenses and license plates; to track people. If you are driving your Dodge with a license plate on it everyone got your number.

Those who imagine that having a full name displayed in some way increases "others" access to them, have not been keeping up with the electronic age.

I have used full name from the start.

User name Merryman

sign Vaughn-----thats me and it would not lessen my exposure if i signed with an alias. Sorry guys, but you can run, but you sure can't hide anymore. Yup, I regret it too, buts thats the way it is.

I just can't help but think of all the people who I have written a check to, filled out a form with, met on the street, spoken with on the phone,... ... ... ... ..... THEY ALL NOW KNOW MY NAME    !!!!!

Maybe we should seek refuge in the back woods! Heaven forbid someone might find out that I am TDR member!!

Let's get real here!

Kev

I have nothing to hide, But I agree I too want my last name taken off. For what ever the reason may be, bottom line I think we should have a choice.

SA Laws reason for not wanting his real name posted is the best one I have seen so far. :)

while i usually don't have a beef on such matters, this one somewhat concerns me because of my occupation. Since there are over 2000 officers here in San Antonio, my username is pretty generic. I purposely have all my information kept private here in San Antonio due to the nature of my job, because people are crazy in this society and I don't want some irate citizen coming after my family because of a stupid traffic ticket. While I do not agree with our names being shown, i'm sure the staff will take care of it as soon as all the dust settles..... just my $. 02

Way I see it here is this,,I have no problem having my name available to ANY PAID member thats here,,See the names and email addresses of all of us need to be taken awawy from those who ONLY search our site and do not EVER pay to be here,,I do not enjoy the ability of the NON members to email us at will and the nasty attitudes they bring along when after you ask if they are members they go ballistic on you,,After all is said and done(when they are asked about being a member, and wether the will join or not)they most times I've encountered say NO,,So I'm VERY happy they decided to remove the names and HOPE they make our email addresses only available to the PAYING membership,,,Just my 2 cents worth.....

Not to play devil's advocate here, but....

I agree that SA Law may have a legit reason for not wanting his name on here. Then again, his full name is on both his uniform and the ticket he wrote to the would be irate citizen. How would the would be citizen even know to look for him here, anyway?

Whether you agree or disagree with the postings of your full, last only, or no real name at all in connection with TDR postings... And whether or not you agree with the owner and operator of TDR about how it's run, I'd like to point out that the reason this step is even being considered, is that there are a few people who refuse to behave themselves.

This is not "public" property, there is no "protected" freedom of speech here. Nobody has a "right" to this forum, either, since not a one of you paid for it. Your $35 paid for a subscription for a year to the paper version of TDR, and this forum is just an added feature that has come along of late. Now that R Patton has purchased TDR and actually runs it, that may change in the future, where purchasing TDR means you purchase the right to use this forum. Until that day, it's not.

As a moderator, I've sometimes spent a half hour or more attempting to find a way to respond comments someone pounded out on thier keyboard in anger in 60 seconds or less, and then stirred up an entire beehive of irritation and confrontation. This can often take the joy out of the use of the TDR site for a lot of people, who never really needed to get involved in controversy in the first place.

As mature adults (or, at least, attempting to be - and I'm speaking for myself on that one) I do believe that if everyone would put some thought into the wording and also the results of thier comments before they posted them, it would be a lot more helpful, and would save a lot of us from many hours and much stress we probably don't need.

I'm asking all of you to realize why the requirement for the name posting has become an issue - And that is the refusal of a few people to live by some relatively simple and not strictly enforced rules on someone else's place. And, just as a person to person request, I'm asking for the courtesy of not stirring antagonism.

And just so you know, more than one moderator has volunteered more time and more efforts, to try to keep the board running as envisioned by it's creators WITHOUT the use of the last names. At present, it appears that just might happen, and that the few who are really uptight about thier names appearing will at least temporarily prevail. But it's going to require the cooperation of everyone.

I don't run this place, and honestly, I carry little influence in how it's run. But, you, as it's users do, both in what you ask for, and how you participate, as well. Please, help us keep it what you want it to be, as well as what works for everyone.

Thanks again

Mark

If you think DC is reading these posts and using the info that people post to deny warranty claims because the trucks have been "altered", the medical community has as words that describe this-paranoid schizophrenia. If you have read the TDR mag. than you already know the statement "I am my own warranty station". I believe in the old saying " you have to pay to play".

I don't know how many times this week I wrote and re-wrote a reply in order comment without giving anyone ammunition. Those that are looking for it will find it one way or another, whether its real or not and whether or not it means taking replies out of context. There's a possibility it will happen with this post too since some consider me an outsider. More often than not, I started a reply and didn't send it. Sometimes its better to not respond to pyromaniacs and let the fire consume itself and die before responding.

The sad part is that Robin has been putting a ton of effort to take care of the users in the last week and asked for the controversy to be put to the side until she could deal with it. She kept her word but a few kept fanning the flames even AFTER her announcement was made. Not once did Robin "lose it" during this time --- quite a task considering the flack launched at her during "hell week"!

Making a comment about policy is good a thing --- it keeps communities dynamic and helps them grow (much of the site's redesign is due to user comments). The TDR staff does consider policy comments but when someone shouts from the roof-tops, comments over and over about the same subject, it becomes self-destructive and counter productive. It causes TDR (and me) to spend more time doing unproductive things instead of implementing features.

I'm personally thankful to the TDR staff and the moderators for showing an enormous amount of restraint and patience during this time. I would also like to extend thanks to the users who have dealt with us in a similar manner.

Sincerely... ... :)

Ken

TDR Admin

Ken, very well written! It appears you and Robin have a thankless job. Don't let a small number of people get you down.

I spend alot of time on this website. It has proven priceless to me as far as the things I have learned, and probably saved me many dollars because of wrong choices I haven't made during my bombing run.

A great big thanks to the members for all the knowledge they bring to this board, and to the TDR staff(Ken, Robin, and the others behind the scenes) who keep this website operating. And to those who are so paranoid... shhh, gotta go now, the black helicopters are circling my house again!!!! :D

Sam

Ken and all the rest of the admins. Keep up the good work. Another thing I recieve about 20 mags a month. The TDR arrives 4 times a year and is the only mag I read cover to cover and has taught me alot about my trucks. :D

I am one of the "fire fanners", and would like to give a BIG thanks to those who corrected what I and others felt was an "problem" on the site.

Many fellow members were quite surprised that anybody would be bothered be the last name showing, if I, and others, seemed "paranoid" along with so many other posted diagnosis by members, let me take a moment to explain my cause for concern, approx. one year ago interest rates dropped and Mom and I decided to apply for a refinance... . you guessed it, we were denied due to a credit report that contained unpaid bills amounting to thousands of dollars! Investigators from the "bunko" section of our police department were baffled and simply could not find the "people", ie scum, who commited this crime.

Now firstly I recall one of the fellow members stating that anybody can be found, HUMM, law enforcement couldn't find the theives, and they are the source of info. that others would call upon to gain needed info.

Paranoia is an unfounded fear, that is a fear without cause, beleive me when you work hard for your money only to have any possibilty of moving up in this world taken away by a person you and the law cannot find you have due cause.

I am happy to say that the dreadful, frustrating situation has been resolved and things are looking up. It took a lot of work and I would not wish it on anybody. I now shred, never owned a shreder before, any and all forms related to personal data.

Laugh, giggle, and enjoy yourselves at my expense, I do not care and sincerely wish you all the best that life has to offer.

Your bro,

Mike
