Other than fuel % what gives with these

Vw Sucks!

One needs only look at the NHTSA problem reports on their website to get an unbiased opinion.

There have been 5000 consumer complaints about stalling problems, plus 8700 Ford field reports, and a NHTSA investigation ongoing since 2003 into accidents and problems associated with stalling issues in the 6. 0.

There are NO complaints associated with the Cummins.

There are NO complaints associated with the Duramax.

People love to point out that TDS is just a small fraction and it doesn't really count. Okay, what about the flatratetech.com forums? They're also loaded with 6. 0 complaints. Plus other places like RV.net. There were so many problems with 6. 0s that the people who run flatratetech.com started a new board just for that engine called 6literpowerstrolke. flatratetech.com.

Good post. Looks like Ketchum is being realistic where some are not. I hear the same thing from friends, neighbors and relatives who own the 6L :-laf powerjoke. Grizzly

I find it kind of odd that they actually have threads about bad reliabiliy, bad problems, and buy backs. What's up with that? I don't recall anything like that on this site. Of course, I don't read the 3rd gen stuff. Has there been any threads like that on the 3rd gen forum? We usually have threads about how to fix something (sometimes with pointed remarks about Dodge), gadgets, and bombing.

I'm not defending the 6. 0 but, I know of 3 people personally that have them and no problems yet. Granted that they haven't had them much over a yr except one and he bought one of the 03's. I still couldn't buy one though. I've got 130,000 on my 01 and those are by no means all easy highway miles, and have only had to put ball joints on it. If a person is going to run mostly highway or empty miles, a powerstroke or duramax would probably do fine, and these trucks (the duramax anyway for sure and I've heard a chipped 6. 0 does pretty good too. ) will flat run. But for low end torque and gettin er done the cummins stands alone.

One look at the local dealer ads and private party classified ads in my area shows a multitude of used '03-'04 Ford diesels for sale, yet hardly any used '03-'04 Dodge diesels available. Even with the 2 to 1 sales ratio this tells me that significantly more Ford owners are getting rid of their trucks than are Dodge owners. After reading the Diesel Stop and TDR posts the reasons for this become pretty clear.

The really telling part for me is that they have a bunch of guys with no problems and thier mindset is "It ain't gonna happen to me its always the other guy" They are very optimistic fellows  On this site me included you have a bunch of guys with no problems and our mindset is "I know I am next" Just look at the 53 threads and VP44 threads. Lots of the VP threads have guys with 100,000 plus and just had thier first problem. Not bad when you look at the 6. 0 trouble. If you took all of the "worriers" away from this site and replaced them with the "Ain't gonna happen to me folks" from the diesel stop you would have a much darker picture of the 6. 0 and a much better picture of the Cummins.

We "worry" about problems and they "hope" they never have them. I'd rather worry than hope :-laf

Brand (blind) loyalty. These guys could have their truck in the shop for 50% of its warrantied life and still claim its the best thing ever. In fact, a lot of those guys are on their 2nd or 3rd trucks due to buybacks and keep giving into their loyalty BS.

And when they do their "Well, Cummins guys have lift pump problems" speach, it gets old. I would rather replace a new lift pump every 50,000 miles than have a truck in the shop for transmission and oil leaks at 5,000 miles.

Admitting to the problem is the first step to recovery. They need to take the 12 step program ... 12 steps to the Dodge dealer :-laf

Someone is looking at life through rose colored glasses.

I have to laugh when I read somebody's post that says "we'll my 6. 0 has run perfectly for the last 4 months" with the implication being that because they haven't had a problem (yet) that statistically there isn't a problem! Patently illogical.

I don't say that because MY Cummins still runs that Cummins makes a good engine, I say that STATISTICALLY the Cummins has proven to hold up very well indead. Along the same line of thinking the 6. 0 is STATISTICALLY a poor engine as far as reliability is concerned.

I really hate the "Ford sells twice as many trucks, so they should have twice as many failures" argument as well. Deal with statistics; problems per 100 units sold and you'll see the whole story.

Someone needs to link them to the JD Power's survey www.jdpa.com/businessservices/automotice/publications/powerreport/200407/0704_Diesel.htm

I wanted to post a couple of the links you guys put in here... . but it seems the thread is locked or something... . I can't reply... .

Oh well... Their loss...

Those guys really do seem to be braindead over there. Can't they run numbers? Maybe it is just denial. But I'd much rather have my '01 HO even with the VP44.
