You know your a Diesel Head When...

... You keep a small glass vial of Diesel Fuel on the window seal in your office and marvel at the indecent beauty that gasoline simply doesn't have.

... You keep a small glass vial of Diesel Fuel on the window seal in your office and use it as a conversation piece to discuss the many advantages of Diesel over Gasoline - including BTU's, volatility, weight, simplicity in processing/manufacturing, etc, etc, etc.

AND

You know you've met another Diesel Head when they walk into your office and say; "Hey, where'd you get the neat vial of Diesel? Looks like #2 with Howies. "

... . you mention you might take a day off for a small vacation and everyone at work assumes you'll be driving out to Indiana for another 'diesel thing'. :-laf

Matt - dieselhead for LIFE!

... .....

3 You think that keeping this thread alive is yer good deed for the day... .

:-laf:-laf i was thinking yesterday to maybe revive the ol' fart thread... [but i didn't have a good enough story to reply to it with]

Guess we know what's for supper tomorrow night. ;) Pork and BEANS!

You're a diesel head when....

THe boss (I work for a farmer) asks you about a problem in a tractor, truck, etc, before consulting a real mechanic.

Mom gripes about mileage (has my first CTD), and you ask about EGT, boost, speed, etc. Then realize she doesnt have guages (still)

You have a REAL answer for when gasser guys ask why you need all that power- to leave them behind.

Gasser guys think 400hp and 22 mpg is a myth &/or a TALL TALL tale.

Guy at the machine shop asks why you want to port and polish a head on a DIESEL (needless to say, he didnt get my business).

Girlfriend-5'9", 130#, 36-24-35, tells you you need a muffler, and you tell her to stuff it. (did same thing, only with bull riding, in HS). No more girlfriend. (Didnt need her, anyway. )

You think anything under 700 lb-ft isnt worth mentioning or braggin about.

Laugh at ricer boys who do 12 sec 1/4s, and are proud of it.

You tell someone considering guages for his Ram, "go with a minimum 40spi guage. " At which the guy behind the counter looks at you like you "have a lobster on your head. "

You think Banks is for the uninformed or super rich.

Or you say, "that guy has MONEY," when you see a Banks or Dr Performance badge, and the gasser passenger looks at you funny.

You consumate a relationship in the front seat of your CTD, on a field road, with the engine idling, AC on. (keep skeeters out of the cab)

It takes 3 months of dating beofre you teach your girlfriend how to drive your truck. (Easy on the go pedal, or YOU buy the $1000 clutch, honey)

Your GF wants a CTD, and tells her friends "I'd rather be Cummin than Strokin. "

I guess I'm not the only one who has been through having someone looking at them as if they had a lobster on their head. :-laf

dpuckett: Does your GF qualify as a 'barn chick'? (... . kinda sounds like she might... . )

I'm up to 9 months, and I still haven't started teaching her yet. I think I might get up the courage in the next week or so, though. I think the biggest reason she hasn't pushed me more is the fact that she's slightly shorter than I am, and if she were to drive, the bench seat would have to be so far forward that I'd be in the dash

I thought this was the dieselhead thread, not the barn chick thread ;)

I like the recent additions!

When you stay up another red-eyed hour after an all day, return-from-vacation drive, just to see the newest posts at TDR.

And I let my GF drive some time back. She felt the power on 3x5 and hasn't ask to drive since then. Mighta spooked her.

Matt

I am currently single; was mostly about my ex- fiancee. First date we went on, I landed on my head from 9' in the air (they won the 2nd round on the bull I had been on in 1st go); had a whiplash and concussion; and fortunately, had givern her a crash course in driving a stick earlier that week. Was an 86 F150 4. 9 4 speed. Sorry about starting the Barn Chick thing. Belongs in another thread.

... your brother asks you if you can pull a Skidster into the back 40 for the weekend because his son doesn't dare pull it up the mountain side with his Power stroke (with custom Turbo) because he KNOWS it would over heat.

PS - This same son drove the 4 hour trip up and back with me. On the return trip, a v-10 and a Power stroke (both had much lighter loads than us) passed us on the flat. He commented on how nice they looked cruising by. I kept the cruise control steady on 70 mph and didn't comment. They got about 1/2 a mile ahead of us by the time they hit a steep, long grade on the Interstate. When I passed them, in the fast lane, half way up the mountain, they were probably doing around 45 mph in the slow lane and I was still at 70. "See ya!"

I didn't have to say a word. :D Man, this truck loves to pull!

Also, We saw some awesome CTD's in Heber City, Utah on our way through! Most had 4" straight pipes and they were all over the place. Sorry, HeberRam, I didn't have time to call. But I still want to stop by and check out your new PDR HX-40 Turbo on one of my return trips (building a cabin near Strawberry). Nice representation Heber City!!!!

When you refer to yourself as a ''nationally published author '' because the TDR posted a couple of your ''you know you are a diesel head'' posts in the magazine

U know your a dieselhead:

when you give up orders to a "nuke" to get on the only DIESEL boat left in active service... .

when you start BomBing the SO's ford so she can keep up with you on trips (even when its a gasser!) ie: also known as LUV (we should get a thread going on what LUV stands for :D Locks Ur Vent)

when you finish all the BomBs that have been waiting and find that you have to drain the tank every 400 miles from all the mileage you have picked up .

when you have 2 shops to work out of (1 at the current house and one at the other house).

when your BomBing parts are at the wrong house.

when you cant decide which bomb to do next (cause you have enuff to do 5 or 6 at once).

when the SO sends you back to work (after being off for 2. 5months) so you can "afford" her... ... ... ... ... ... ...

when you have wireless connections on the laptop so you can work on the bombs AND keep track of the posts on the TDR (which is just an excuse to keep track of "how does this go on agn").

when the kid on the overpass is yanking his arm up & down for the air horns and yours are louder than the 18's next to you.....

SOTSU!!

... You lay out in the rain underneath the truck to install the latest BOMB that the nice guys in the UPS trucks were so kind as to drop at your front door that afternoon :)

I installed my DSS steering stabilizer bracket last night after I got home from work. Was gonna wash and wax the beast for the annual employee car show at work today, but decided waxing in the rain was kinda not a good idea

My girlfriend asked me last weekend when I was gonna let her drive the truck. She drives a Subaru with a 5 speed, so won't be a problem for her, I'll just have to warn her about the differences in our clutches and takeoff power :D

I have to keep reminding my GF that you don't have to rev diesels to the sky before you let out the clutch... . unless you want to fry the tires.
