Hello to all,



First off, if this has been posted elsewhere, I apologize!



As some of you may know, Toyota is in the process of building a larger full sized truck for the American market. It was rumored that this truck was to use a Hinnon Diesel engine which Toyota supposedly owns! But according to the following article, they are looking to Cummins to provide the power for their next rice burner!

This article certainly gives us something to think about!



I'll keep my own opinions out of this as I may get kicked off the site!!

Cummins already has both v-6 and v-8 diesels being tested for the light duty p-up market... not hd

Sign me up for one. I won't have to deal with the vibrations, ball joints, u-joints, transmission, and the numerous other quirks my truck has that DC should have addressed years ago. . The only reason I bought my truck was because Toyota didn't build an HD and I love Cummins. I'll bet first in line if I can get that from Toyota.

That article is very interesting, but I found some discrepancies that don't add up.

wow. if toyota built a cummins powered truck i would definately look into that. personally I like the dodge but not alot. I bought it for the drivetrain. while still having its issues, I cant resist the solid front axle. and both being dana's. you can not beat japanese engineering in a vehicle though. nomatter who wants to argue with me lol. but seeing as the tundra is now a 40k truck as it is. with a cummins I would speculate that the price of the truck would be astronomical compared to the domestic market. and hence I will never afford one.

I sort of wonder how and where they got some of their information for the article? Just because the 48-RE only has 4 forward gears it's weaker? Hmmm! And it's also obvious the fellow who wrote the article hasn't been to any of the Ford sites to hear of the problems they've had in the past few years! And I personally do not believe that just because it is Toyota that it's bullet proof either! Every company has had dud products from carpet shampooers to automobiles! It all comes down to whether you want to deal with the problems of that particular product!

Think I will stick with my I6. Relatively easy to work on compared to any V series I have seen. I thought the general consensus was that a I6 would have the definite torque advantage over a V anything. Sounds like going to a V is a step down.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS. These people havent a clue about real diesels.

Have they not been reading about Ford's woe's with their engins and problems with their new 5 speed autos.

I for one will NOT purchase a V8 designed diesel, you loose the main advantage of the diesel's power.



An MB900 from Mercedes would be nice, but the Mercedes engin must be an inline 6.

Not to stir the pot, but if the 48RE is the best thing out there then why is DCX building the 68RFE transmission?

It would be awfully hard for a domestic buyer to purchase an HD pickup, other than the Ford Super Duty, that was 100% US designed and built if the Mercedes scenario become reality.

How does a Dodge pickup made in Mexico by a German company count as 100% designed and built in the US when it has the with the Cummins, but not if it has the MB diesel?

Amen to that! I can't even imagine someone considering a Toyletta a "real" truck. No matter what they do they will still be what they've always been, an inferior piece of recycled scrap metal. Just my . 02 worth
