If you are doing a flush I would use a more modern coolant like you suggested. G05 is backwards compatible to your 12 valve, the benefits of course are longer service intervals. I ran Peak Global Lifetime for many years in my 98. At the time it was the only silicate free/phosphate free non 2EH "universal" coolant on the market.

But the G05 is definitely good coolant and even better if it helps cut back on inventory if you use it in other vehicles.

Sounds good. Just wondered if it would work as well in hot weather and climbing grade with 10K trailer in tow.
 
Absolutely. No change in freeze protection or cooling ability. The only thing that changed is the composition which allows antifreeze to be effective for longer periods of time.
 
I run the G05, fill, run to op temp and flush with distilled water 2x, was pretty clear.

I like it. I don't pull much so can't help with that, we pull hay wagons runs normal 190'ish up and down.
