Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission service

Over a month and 3500 miles ago I installed an ISSPRO f/p gauge and sensor, new fuel filter, and FASS DRP02 fuel pump located on the block. This was due to motor bucking and wouldn't run over 1,000 rpm so I nursed it back home after 5 miles and spent HOURS installing that damn DRP02 on original f/p bracket. I got good pressure on gauge but today zero. Also, the day after I installed it, running up I-75 between Toledo and Monroe, Michigan, the road was so ruff I slowed to 50 mph, I was pulling a customers Ski Nautique and hit a bump that knocked out a trailer tail light completely off trailer and popped a center cap off my 17" wheels. I pulled off exit to check things out when I found all this happened. Coming down the ramp fuel pump went to zero shortly after I hit another wicked bump on bridge to ramp. I sat for 15 minutes after sitting on side of road and tried starting and f/p went to 15lbs of pressure and i drove on another 2k miles with no prob. Today, it started bucking coming back from lunch and nursed it back to work a couple of miles. Actually, killed engine for a few minutes and started it up and got no f/p again and fuel tank gauge went to "E". Shut it off, waited and started up, still no f/p but fuel gauge registered back to 1/3 tank and nursed it back to work another 2 miles. Still no f/p when I started it to go home so got a ride home. Any suggestions? This FASS replaced an Airdog Raptor previous owner had on there after OEM failed and replaced VP44 at the time <200,000 miles back then but probably much earlier miles wise, don't know exactly when. I did all my replacement at 252,000 miles

I’d be going after the fuel tank module/sender/pickup tubes, fuel tank vent, and fuel cap. First, put a rag over the fuel filler and run it without a cap. If you still have low/no pressure, pull the module and clean it all out and replace the sock. If all that turns out ok, THEN I’d check the DDRP.

One battery terminal (positive) was loose and I could remove easily because it wouldn't tighten, so I pulled it all apart and filed the gap down to allow proper grip. Thought that might be the answer but still no f/p. I also checked the lead to the pump by disconnecting and probing with test light which lit up when I bumped the starter key. I guess next is fropping the tank or removing input fuel line to see if its clogged?

I agree. There is a screen hidden in the suction line, inside a small plastic canister on the factory module. You might want to check it.

Thanks for that picture showing the screen i need to check. Guess I'll get busy dropping the tank after I siphon out about 10 gallons of remaining diesel. Hope my transmission jack can be used to drop tank.

Put a board or 2 on the jack and will work fine. If you have a piece of plywood around, that'll work better! have done that in the past. Sometimes you can even throw a couple straps around tank to help support. Good luck on repairs!
