Any idea which WD hitch is a better ?

Is the pullrite superglide hitch still the shortbed answer?

Hi to everyone, I do have Q. I now have 2001 Dodge 2500 LB 5. 9 Diesel, this truck can tow 10,000 lb trailer with WD on the hitch. Over 10,000 they set must be fifth wheel. What is a maximum weight of trailer that can be tow on hitch with 2006 - 2007 2500 models ? Somehow dealer can't give me straight answer and the brochure mostly deal with total GCWV. Did anybody know the answer ?

me:confused:

Are you talking tongue weight? Or overall trailer weight? I think tongue weight is around 500 lbs max, but not sure about trailer weight. Would think the info would be on the data plate in the door, or owners manual.

the pin weight of a 5th wheeler is a ratio of the total trailer weight. If memory serves, it's 15-20%. So a 10,000 trailer would have at least 1500 pounds of weight on the axles of the tow vehicle. People here will say to answer your question precisely, you will need to look at your door sticker so you will have the exact numbers based on how your particular truck was built to compute your maximum trailer weight.

I believe he's asking for the ratings on the factory 2006-7 hitch receiver with and without the use of weight distributing bars. On my 2002, it was 500/5000 dead weight and 1000/10000 with weight distribution. What are the corresponding ratings for the 2006-7?

Rusty, you are a right that is exactly my Q. Sorry, if I formulated that not so clearly.

That depends on the weight of the truck. Regular cab, quad cab, short or long bed, automatic or manual etc... all add up to give you a total that you can tow. The heavier the truck, the lighter the trailer.

Guys, all the man wants to know is what the sticker says on the hitch receiver. I have a black and white decal on my receiver that gives the 500/5000 and 1000/10000 data I quoted earlier. Do the 2006-2007 trucks not have such a decal on the receiver?

Yes that is all I like to know. What is on your hitch sticker or what is your driver manual, if you own 2006 or 2007. Like in inside of my driver manual for 2001 they stated 500/5,000 or 1,000/10,000 with WD hitch and over 10,000 must be fifth wheel. THX

Rusty, the 06 I looked at didn't have a sticker and the owner couldn't find the ratings in his owners manual.

M Evan, that is the hitch rating on your 01. If you need to pull a bigger trailer, buy a better hitch. The POS metal mounting brackets on my 97, which is probably the same as yours, cracked. I bought another hitch from Huskie hitches that is rated for 1500 hitch weight and a 15,000 lb trailer with W/D. It was about $120.

i have been towing 20k to 28k trailer its a tag and i have over 5000 tounge wieght and not a problem exept when i broke the 5000 lb scale i put it on over 60k miles towing but i know im way over for a tag trailers 30ft 3 axle halmark race trailer 2 levels

If the truck has a factory towing package, it should have a class IV hitch. There should be a decal on the hitch showing its capacity. A class IV hitch is rated for 12K# of GTW & 1,200# of tounge weight. The way the truck is equipped would determine how far one could go with respect to maxing out the hitch capacity.

You may find info on hitches @ http://www.hitches4less.com/trailer-hitch-classes.html

My factory towing package hitch had a tag for 1000/10,000 with W/D, 500/500 without.

There is no industry standard for classes of hitches. Different makers class them differently and they overlap. What should be and is are different. The 06 does not have a decal.

I was told on a different forum that only 2 1/2 inch receivers are rated for 15,000. Another know-it-all.

Correct the typo (500/500) in GAmes post and look at the class III & class IV information in your link and it looks as though you're both on the same page.

My model year 2000 factory towing package hitch had a tag for 1000/10,000 with W/D, 500/5000 without.

The owner's manual states the factory hitch on my 04. 5 is a class IV 1200/12000 with a WDH... the funny part is that it is something like 200/8500 without... and the 200# number is not a typo and is what my owner's manual states...

That is what I was looking for. Only funny parts is that your hitch is a class IV and rated 1200/12000 with a WD. My is class V , but rated only 1000/10000. Ohh well nothing is a easy this days. :p

THX very much,
