OK, I'm getting this noise like whaaaaaaaaaaaa. something like the horn you hear at shipyards. steading droning noise. it happens first thing in the morning when it's very cold or sometimes on very steep hill either when I step on the brake or turn the steering wheel. Power steering pump??? I'm hesitant to change the fluid after the other posts i've been reading.

Sounds like the PS pump, just replaced mine last month. Have you checked the fluid level, is it up to the mark? If so it looks like you're in for a new pump. Might as well put a new seal in the vacume pump while you have things out.

try changing to synthetic ps fluid like the valvoline one. That cured my groan when it is very cold out. may be worth a shot instead of getting a new pump right off the bar. Just my 2 cents. BTW my truck made that noise since day one off the lot, when it is cold (20f and under) and from my experience and what I have read it is not anything bad going on, just noisey.

What other posts have u seen that are negative on a fluid change? I did mine over the course of a couple of weeks with a turkey baster a small amount at a time.

Hope this helps

how much do they run? should I go aftermarket or mopar? the vacuum pump is part of the ps pumP?

I got a rebuilt unit from NAPA with the reservoir, here is a link: PS pump.

The vacuuepump is a seperate unit that sits in front of the PS pump. The PS and vacuum pump come off as a single unit and then the two are seperated after they are removed, access to the bolts/nuts is limited is why. Here is a link to the vacuum pump seal.
