The price has gone up. You'll have to give them a call.

I know this is an old thread, but I have been told by a friend who is an injection pump mechanic that Power Service is only somewhat better than no additive, at least in terms of lubricity and cetane improvement. This is especially true for the VP44. He recommends Stanadyne, but his shop has no experience with Amalgamated.

I'm still using it, I guess by blind faith, but I'm happy. I have to 'double bag' it to keep it from seeping past just about any containers lid seal. It creaps and it stinks - but I still believe.

My VP44 went out at 45K miles if I remember right. Just before I voided my warranty with the FASS. That actually was the only time she's left me in a loner car. Down for a week in a shop I didn't trust - warranty covered the Injection pump but not the Lift pump. ????

That's when I found TDR - silver lining. Found out I needed a fuel pressure guage with the 2nd Gens --- then the FASS --- then Amalgamated... ... ... then the Turbo... ... ... ... ... ... ... . then the... ... ... .

Anyway the pumps still going and she's fast as hell, did well in this exteme cold this winter - and I feel like I'm doing best by her with Amalgamated every tank. 8 oz bottle for a 24 gal fill up.

Tip for the wise and well informed -use a MECHANICAL FUEL PRESSURE GUAGE. Now that's something you can believe in!

Reading the label and retyping it to be easier to read:

• Cummins L-10 Detergent + Dispersant - controls and reduces injector deposits
• Cetane Improver to raise engine cetane number by 6+ numbers
• Helps to reduce engine temperatures and reduce stack emissions
• Wax modifier - Controls or eliminates filter plugging at temperatures below the cold fuel cloud point
• Lubricant SLBOCLE to 5000+ prevents fuel system wear
• Pour point depressant to -40F
• CFPP (?) reduction to -25F
• Non-metallic and Non-alcoholic
• Deposit modifier - Disperses fuel insolubles and eliminates system sludge
• Scavenges combustion area deposits and limits future buildup
• Water De-emulsifier
• Reduces maintenance costs and equipment downtime
• Anti-icer to reduce freeze point to -40F stops fuel/water freeze-ups
• Effectively controls rust and corrosion in fuel for NACE 1-A rating
• Stabilizes stored fuel and retards oxidation for 80% or better reflectance readings
• Retards fuel deterioration

CFPP = Cold Filter Plugging Point - which according to Gary's documentation is usually the same as the Cloud Point. Cloud Point - "laboratory determination of the temperature at which a specific amount (of) the paraffin content in the fuel has changed to solid wax" and of course solid wax will clog any filter. 'Winterized' fuel has Kerosene mixed in to lower this temperature.

Here's a article on the Lubricity standards currently in effect - by reading it I gather that currently the standard is less than 2800 grams SLBOCLE value and Amalgamated's product has almost twice that at 5000+.

Eric,
I have been using Stanadyne for years, always buying the 5 Gallon cans. I use 11oz MSR o-ring sealed back-packing/camping fuel bottles. Mine are 5 years old and still using the original o-rings. I bought two 11oz bottles and always keep one in the side pocket of my door for the next fill up. Never had a leak from these bottles.
I also bought a 33oz for road trips and carry all three. The link below will show you what they look like.

Order Amalgamated

I have been using Amalgamated since Vaughn ordered the 55 gallon drum a couple years ago.

I would like to know what changes if any have been done to the TDR formula? Sam

I called down there just to see - what - if they were still there I guess.

Anyway I asked if the formula was the same as 2 years ago or so when I bought 2 - 5gal buckets. Amalgamated's salesman (there is no way I can get away clean about not remembering his name) said that with the low sulfer fuel they have increased the lubricity level and put it in a new plastic container - with what sounds like a little petcock at the base to make it easier to spill all over the place. The price is - I think he said - 65 bones for a 5 gal bucket.

He also told me something about the 2005's (and up?) - the fact that they are overheating the fuel in the pump to the point that it's turning it black in the tank. - spooky ------ I love my 24V.

Well, I decided that I would contact them and possibly buy a 5 gallon container... definately cheaper than PS. I have decided to start buying bulk to save a little money...

What is the mixing rate (ounces/gallon)???

STOP THAT!!! :) At least until I can get my new "COOL FUEL" fuel line radiator fin mod. out.

Seriously, did he give any more details? It sounded detrimental.

I just ordered another 5 gallon bucket this week; $64. 68 plus $50 shipping to PA.

Mixing rate is 1 pint (16oz) per 47 gallons. I use small (almost full) plastic 12oz bottles for each fill up of 30/32 gallons or so.

$50 for shipping????????? Does it ship hazardous??????

I WAS considering a dose of this... but for that, I'll buy Stanadyne if I buy anything. I might see if I can pick up some the next time I'm in the area...

I should also note, they have NOT returned my email... I sent it out Monday.

Ever pick up a 5 gallon pail of fuel/water/additive, etc. ? Fed Ex guy hates it.

Even with shipping, it's cheaper than Stanadyne the last time I did the math.

Use the phone.

agreed.

I did the math with Stanadyne too and it wasn't even close. From what I have seen / heard / read I believe Amalgamated is better anyway, even if it was the same cost.

Cost me $23 to ship 5-gallons of 85w140 Royal Purple from Texas to PA... half the price for double the distance.

I finally got a response from them... they are cool with me picking it up (I travel through the area) as long as I give them 3 days notice...

So if I time it right, I can pick some up on the way through...
