Whose Twins?????

Used headstuds?

So I got my DD in last night, went pretty smooth. Installed the hydro kit and the master cylinder seems loose on the firewall. It just turns a 1/4 turn in and clicks right? When you push the pedal it moves around a bit too. Also the clutch switch doesnt work either now. It wont start unless you get underneath and pull the switch back the extra 1/4" and then it goes. The pedal seems low too.

Did I miss something on the install/swap here? Just doesnt seem right.

I read the red tag that is wired to my slave cylinder that if the master cylinder doesn't lock in right..... you gotta change the rubber seal from your stocker & it should work better. Also if you take the slave cylinder out of the bellhousing & push in/out a few times..... the air will bleed itself out of the system. I haven't installed mine yet, but It should work.

Also, did you take the plastic grommet out of the stock master cylinder and move it to the new one? That will take up the play at the pedal. Lastly, the master cylinder is adjustable. If the pedals too low for your liking turn the master rod and it will make the rod longer and raise the pedal height.

Hmmm... .

My kit didnt come with a red tag. May have to swap the rubber seal and try that. I did adjust the pedal out quite a ways, but its problem too low due to the cylinder being not set in right. I took the foam seal off the old one but not the plastic grommet. Didnt know if that was suppose to come off or not. Do I have to dissasemble the master to get that out? The end doesnt seem to come off.

Thanks a bunch.

No you don't have to disassemble it. The part I'm talking about is right inside the rod end. Just take a flat blade screwdriver and pry the washer off - one side is a washer and the other side is a collar with a washer permanently attached. It comes off real easy.

I just installed my new hydraulics today... . big difference in the shifting of the transmission & smoother pedal feel. I can't wait to get the new clutch in tomorrow.

I did swap the grommet in the rod end, but there was one around the shaft too near the base that the clutch swithc pushes on I believe.

Couldn't tell you because I disabled my clutch switch a long time ago and threw it out so I could start it in neutral without pressing the clutch.

Did you bleed the system? Take the slave cylinder out of the bellhousing & push it in/out a few times..... helped mine. Also... . you did leave the plastic tip on the end if the slave cylinder push rod right? Just trying to think of every possibility.

yeah I left the plastic tip on the slave. I pushed the slave rod in once, maybe I should do it some more. Still have to swap the rubber grommet out.

Swapped the rubber grommet and that tighten it right it. Still wouldnt start though. Added a few washers to the rod and now it starts. Pedal feels way better now too. Just gotta wait until Tuesday to get my 271 and then I can drive it and see how it really feels...

do you guys have the part numbers for the grommet and other things that are listed. i seem to have misplaced#@$%! my old stuff

Can you explain what you mean by "big difference in the shifting of transmission"?

Brian

My pedal was "spongy" before the install & after the SB unit... . it feels like a stock clutch. The pedal feels like I'm driving my brothers 3rd gen... . very nice!

I went out in the garage today & tried adjusting my pedal to get the clutch to grab sooner [lower towards the floor]. It wasn't engaging until 3 inches from the top of the pedal. I took the slave cylinder out & put some washers behind the slave where it bolts to the bellhousing... . worked great! It now engages at half pedal... . Perfect! Just thought I'd share my experience.

well i basically screwed myself. i had my stock hydraulics thrown away with the vital washer i need. went to the dealer to see if i could get a new one, but looking at the parts picture showed that i have to buy the whole hydraulic master cylinder. so if anybody has any extra washers or knows where to get any, PLEASE let me know. i need one bad
