I saw the ad for the 92 D250 for $800 in the classifieds, and jumped on it. I sent the guy an email, got pics, called and talked to him, and we agreed when I would pick it up. I went to my buddy's house, dug his trailer out of the weeds, checked my truck out top to bottom, pulled some money from a CD I had, got some other deliveries arranged along the way, etc, etc. I got it all lined out, didnt work on either of my g/f's houses for 2 days, then get a call this AM that the guy had sold it to someone who offered him more money. I would expect more from a TDR member, but I guess there are all kinds in this organization. I called him and told him in no uncertain terms what I thought (questioning the marital status of his parents at his conception, even), and that you just dont screw people like that. I am not only out my time, but fuel coming down here, the fees for withdrawing money from my CD account, not to memtion the extra cash I would have made along the way.

I could really care less about the fact I missed a really good deal on a clean truck. It is more the fact we agreed on a price and time, and he decided on a whim to sell it to someone else. I would have gladly given him what the other guy gave for it when I got there Saturday. He said in his email and voice mail that I had said $800 was my top bid, and though there is no real proof, I said nothing of the kind. Would it have killed him to say, "I have a guy coming from the midwest that's supposed to be here this weekend. If you give me a phone number, I can call you if he doesnt show. ":mad::mad::mad:

Welcome to Modern America, where no one keeps their word anymore. I am so fuming mad, it is going to be dark before I can leave here without getting a ticket or arrested for something stupid.

Duee to me wanting to take something of a moral high road, I will not divulge the person's name, but look through my thread and the classifieds, and one can figure it out.

Daniel, that is really a bummer. Been there, done that and it really grinds.

Kudos for taking the high road and keeping the venting cleaned up even though I am sure it was a struggle. ;)

This really not the forum for this type of post so before it gets out of hand lets think a bit before hitting the enter key.

Cheers :)

Daniel,

I feel for you! Most people do still live by the motto " A man's word is his bond", but every once in awhile .

I trick I have used when not sure of the seller, is to send money, some small amount at least. Sorta makes the guy feel like something binding is going on. Sure shouldn't be necessary of course.

GL- I only edited it once. I had ALMOST bought some extra wheels to run some LT radials (vs the bias tires on there now) on the trailer for the trip, but was pressed for time, and decided to worry about getting wheels when I returned.

I realize this isnt the exactly appropriate place for a thread like this, but the 1stGen forum seems to be somewhat of a subforum, and we all seem to get along better than most, and stay more civilized than some of the other generations, esp in our respectful disagreements. Kind of a "I think I'm right, but you are entitled to your opinion" attitude.

Lots of folks with genuine integrity simply CAN NOT be bought, PERIOD!

Many others DO have a price at which THEIR "integrity" can be bought - the seller in THIS case probably willing sold HIS for $100 or less...

In my book, HE is the actual loser in this case, and in every sense of the word... ;)

Agree with you on that Gary.

I have had a few instances when I have sold something too cheap only to be offered more during the sale. Tough luck. Bite the bullet. You just hope the first guy doesn't come through. I sure would not have gained enough to sacrifice my integrity.

30000+ members. Theres sure to be a few scumbags mixed in there. Even dirtbags can afford the membership fee if they screw another member for the coin. lol

Daniel:

I have to agree with you on expecting more out of TDR members but, every basket can have a rotten one in it I guess. If he makes a habit of dealing like this he will definitly lose in the end.

there still are people who honor their word, i recently bought a 96 passat tdi for $2450, i was the first caller on his ad, and he was 150 miles away from me. the seller called me 4 times just to be sure i was coming to get it because his phone hadn't stopped ringing since he posted the ad on craigslist, people even offering a lot over his asking price. he didnt even try to ask for more money. so there still are people who's word actually means something.

I've had it go both ways - one guy holding my price against all comers, and another sold out (at least he called me).

One thing you can do - send him a check when you've agreed. If he cashes it, you have a deal. Of course, for $800 bucks, he knows you're not going to come after him.

Tough. Regards, DBF

He could've at least called you and told you about his better offer. It's tough dealing over the net. He hasn't been a member here for a year yet. I buy and sell on these sites all the time. I tell buyers, hey I've been online for years. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not hard to find. You won't be screwed over. A word 'should' be a word. Sorry to hear about your loss DP. I was hoping to snag some parts off ya when you trailered it back this way;).
