245/70r19.5

Does anyone out there know if 245/70R19. 5's will fit on 6" wide wheels that come off of a Frito-Lay truck. I think they are the P30 chassis ones, but not totally sure. I have a set that I had to do some machining on the hub holes, but other than that, they fit real good. They have the same backspacing as my factory 16" wheels. I was planning on buying 8R19. 5's, but would like something wider if I could. I don't want 225's, because they have to short of a side wall, and aren't tall enough. The 245's would be perfect, as long as they don't rub each other on the rear. I am aware that rickson wheel site says 245's should go on 6. 75" wheels, but I know someone out there has broken the rules. Thanks for any help, Alex

Oh yeah, these aren't for the truck in my signature. They are for my 89 W350cab chassis.

I dont see why they wouldnt work- they are only a 1/2in wider than the 235s. that adds a quarter inch on each side, reducing the gap bewteen the tires by 1/4in. If you put some heavey loads on it, you may wnat to make double sure your duals dont rub each other.

You're almost certainly going to have a rubbing problem. P30 duals will usually take 225s - barely.

I have two wheels that still have some old 225's on them. Holding a ruler across the face of the wheel, there is good 1/2" of space from the ruler to the tire. Mounted together they should have about an inch of clearance between them. I'm guessing 245's would be an inch wider than 225's, so the 1/2" on each side would take up my 1" clearance. But, on 6" wide wheels, maybe they won't gain as much width. It would be close, that's why I'm hoping someone on here has some personal experiance.

So what are you saying? Did yours not have any space between them, or was it about an inch like I'm figuring?

Clearance with 225s is marginal. 245s will not work.

The approved rim widths we post are based upon the Rim & Tire Association's guidelines. Running anything but a 225/70R19. 5 or an 8R19. 5 on a 6" wide wheel is not at all considered an approved combination. One reason is that squeezing the wider tire on such a narrow rim will cause the tire to have a crowning effect and will result in premature tire wear. (Also, and probably less likely, there is the potential for upsetting the bead seat). As far as the rear tires touching, probably not with no load but most likely will touch when loaded.
