Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Any difference with Amzoil EaE filter over stock?

I was wondering if I were to replace my stock filter with the Amsoil EaA filter if it would make any difference as far as increased flow, lower egt's, or turbo noise. It will be the one that fits in the stock airbox, part number EaA106.

I replaced my BHAF on my '99 with the Amsoil drop-in. Power and egt's were unchanged from the honker. I had an EZ and mach 1. 6's for a total of 326rwhp and 680 torque. It brought the noise down and worked great. I sold the truck and have a like new one in the box if you're interested. I'm running the same thing on my '07. P. m. me if interested.

The only difference that has been measured , is better filtering with as good a flow as any , no need to soap/clean or oil , easy to clean , I use a vacuum with a shot brush and mild air pressure from the inside .

I can't tell you how it compares to stock, but of the three configuations I have tried the Amsoil drop-in flowed the least, was the quietest, and had the highest EGT's. The configurations I've tried are:

1) Volant - loudest and lowest EGT's

2) aFe Stage 1 Pro-Dry S + DPP Cool Hose - in between noise & EGT's. This is my current configuration because the Volant doesn't fit with the Kilby air compressor I recently installed. FYI the Pro-Dry is a dry filter like the Amsoil. It does let about 20% more dust past than an aFe ProGuard 7 and also flows more than a ProGuard 7 and flows less than their Magnum filter.

3) Amsoil dropin + stock airbox + DPP Cool Hose + PSM cold intake - quietest and highest EGT's/smoke



The last issue of TDR had a writeup on different air intake configurations, and I believe they said that the Amsoil dropin made about the same HP as the stock filter.

Guess this is good a place to put this as any since it is on filters.



What you see in the picture is a stock OEM filter (the short one 25 ft long by 10 inches wide). The long one is a BHAF that is 10 inches wide by 85 ft long. I had some time and decided to cut a couple of old filter apart just to see the difference. I run the BHAF and never have a problem. Not bad mouthing any filter here, just showing the difference.

Hey Mundgyver - you're my kind of guy (NO insult intended! :-laf)



Nothing beats real world testing and clear photo evidence! :-laf



BUT, someone will chime in and point out that it's not the LENGTH or WIDTH of the filter media - but the quality and porosity that counts...



But for my money - and even tho' I'm currently testing an Amsoil 4510 filter - the old standby BHAF is hard to beat!

One thing to remember with air filters and oil filters, the bigger you go with a quality media the better off you are Why because when pulling through a larger filter the air or oil in affect slows down because of the amount of surface area you are pulling through, so the filter will work better. You have less resistance overall for better flow. If I could find an adapter that would allow me to run one of the huge oil filters that they run on the 18 wheelers I would run that. I am still working on that. One thing is for sure, there is no such thing as over filtering. Restriction yes, but going bigger with more media negates any restrictions.



The BHAF has about 10,200 square inches of filtering media compared to 3,000 square inches of filtering media in the OEM filter which make the OEM about 70% smaller. The media looks to be the same type of material.

Well jeeze - you have all that bed space out there in back - look at the size filter you could get in there - bet you don't normally use it all anyway! :-laf:-laf



Yeah, the more you can reduce volume and speed/force of airflow thru a filter medium, the more effective it can be, all things being equal - pretty much the theory and fact of oil bypass filtration...
