Yeah, I didn't know the difference between the "exhaust" brake and the engine brake when I had mine installed, lets just say I was disappointed in the sound it made:( On the other hand, it did work well...



If you think that worked well, an engine brake provides more brake horsepower then an exhaust brake hands down.
 
Its about time someone has created an interest in a real engine brake the exhaust brakes just dont cut it while pulling real heavy loads. Id definately buy one and know some of my friends would to.
 
With the size of our engines you would think they could keep it down to inch and a half to two inches of added height. We have a customer that has an old chev brigadier with an 8v92 that some one has put on some jakes, butched up the cab pretty good, but hey, it has em'. I would think that the medium duty market would benefit from these as well as us. I can't believe no one has devoveloped them by now.
 
I just did some searching, an done for a 855 will set you back about $1600 for the kit. After looking at their description of how they work, I understand why they have not been put onto the 12v, but I would think it wouldn't take much to put one onto the.



Due to not having the push rod operated injectors I am guessing is the main reason they have not built one for the B-series.

tgordon- thanks for the link! Again with the 24v could it be as simple as soleniods mounted with the rockers fired by the VP instead of the injector?:confused: maybe thats too easy?
 
Would Cummins be okay with this on their engine? Would the components be able to hold up to this kind of stress? Just curious.....
 
On the Cat 3406b's there is no injector rocker, the exhaust valve from one cyl opens the exhaust valve on another. There is already technology to make one work with diesels with OUR style of pumps. The main R&D that needs to be done, is going to be making it into a tight package. I'm sure that there is going to be some testing of different variables, but the basics are already there.
 
EASY KA, I didn't know much either and that was what I found. DCreed they are workin gon electric solinoids for valves and have been for a while, the problem I heard was getting them to respond fast enough, be strong enough, and small enough to fit. I read something about trying to use and electric over hydralic like the power stroke? But then it would be a simple reprograming of th ecomputer and you got it.

I dont think it would be an issue, but the question still rises to me: Are the rods/crank/block strong enough to hold up to a compression brake?



I prefer the logic that my engine was stock at 235 HP, so the brake would have that or (probably) less. With the 90hp fueling box, I should be causing more stress with the go pedal than what a comp. brake could do. And evrythig seems to happy right now. I tow alot in the summer, so long time on the throttle at times, and I would certainly be on the engine brake for long cycles... . in all five gears. I can hear it now Oo. Oo. Oo.
 
OH YEAH! Load my gooseneck down with some hay... ... I can see it now: driving around w/ my passenger window down, listening to her pulling through the gears loaded, then "jaking" back down!!! the block and internals Should be ok, diesels won't usually make as much braking hp as go power- unless it's an ISX
 
They've been out for a year & a ½....

If you look at the pictures on the link you have you'll notice that it is an exhaust brake just like everyone else has been selling, not a true "jake brake" like what we're after.
 
They're saleman, rarely do they actually know what they're talking about, they just want you to buy whatever they're selling so they get paid.
