Why did Dodge go with 16" wheels for the 2nd generations? They seem too small for the work potential these trucks have. I have 265/R75's and don't like the way they look. They seem inadequate for hauling my camper down rough roads in Baja.

I want a tall set of rims and tires for winter trips to the snow and a wider set of tires for Mexico travel. Anyone have any suggestions on rim and tire sizes?

Thanks...

My best guess is because they were the common tire for a truck of that size. I have uped mine to 285's and I might have to downshift a little earlier on the hils, but they are a 33" tire about 9" wide and unless I am towing a enclosed trailer or something large on a flat bed I am still looking at over 20 no trouble. If I keep it under 80 pullin gthe Jeep on a G/N trailer I will easily get 17. I have thought about getting some 17" or 19. 5" rims and putting tires on those for most of my driving, and keeping the 16 with something for winter driving since I do not do much towing then.

Nothing wrong with 16's on a truck in this size/power/weight - and sure are LOTS more choices in types, brands and prices of tires... ;):D

No worries with 16's here, like was stated, A LOT more tire choices and until recently the only size with a load range E as far as I know.
