General Tires

Has anyone had any problems with the OEM factory installed General Tire??



At 32000 mi had right go bad (cracks in the side wall) now the same problem with the left side @45000. . Just looking for some information, never had this kind of problem with any of the other brands that I have used!!

They are not my choice of tires but as you know, they are OE on our Dodges.



In the '90s I used several sets of them on a '94 Ford F250. They were only good for 40-45k miles then at least one in the set of four would develop cord separation in the casing and begin pulling right or left.



The set on my '06 Ram was better than the Goodyear Wranglers that were OE on my '01 Ram. They seemed to be improved from my previous experience. I got over 70k miles out of the set of six on my '06 Ram and actually pulled them off a little early because winter was coming. I experienced no sidewall cracking or cord separation. They were actually good (not great) tires.



They were OE on my current chassis cab and look okay at 25k. So far they are problem free. I will run them as long as I can then replace them with Michelins.

At about 40K both fronts developed a bulge and cracks in the tread. Had one devil of a vibration from the front. Looks like they were about to separate. Also the rear were worn to the bars. So I replaced all 6 with Firestone Transforce HT.

I should check to see what the build date of the spare tire is. It may have been age related.

Yeah, I agree. You definitely needed a set of tires and you bought the best replacements available on the market.



For many years I bought cheaper tires. On the recommendation of the tire crew at my local SAM's Club I bought a set of Michelins abou 8 years ago. I became a believer. Michelin tires are another of the products where "you get what you pay for. " I learned while I was a transporter that Michelins are actually cheaper than lesser brands. Michelins will run 100,000+ miles without fail. Using SAM's Club (or Costco) prices that calculates out to just over $0. 01/mile. That's a little over a penny per mile.

My Generals wore down to the tread-wear line at 21k!!! Note: I rotated every 5k and watched my tire pressure as well. I am with HBarlow in that the Michelins are the way to go. Unfortunately I will have to replace around 50k but I am still very pleased with the performance. Michelin has my vote!

Costco is where I got my tires. They are the only tire Costco sells for us 6 wheel folks. At 239. 00 a tire, times six they were not cheep. No more 4lo and rocks, at least thats what I told the wife. :-laf:-laf

OE on my truck were Michelins. Never again. Didn't even get 35k out of em. We'll see how the Bridgestones work out.
