RMTDR'rs -

Now that things have calmed down for me I can get back into our chapter activities. First I want to apologize for my relative inactivity, but I do indeed want to liven things up for our chapter, and I need your help in two ways.

First, as you can see I've posted a poll of activities/events/ideas. Please respond by indiciating those activities you are interested in, or, please post things you would be interested in doing.

While the activity in our chapter has been quiet that doesn't mean I am the only person who can suggest an event. I encourage anyone with ideas to post them, even if it is a BBQ at your place on a 3 day weekend.

Also, as we're all aware, a scheduled event does not mean there will be a big turnout, and I especially want to make it clear that a low turnout is never indication of a lack of wanting to go - simple logistics and economics - not everyone can make it. But, that has never disuaded planning events.

Usually, with the exception of a big dyno gig, the number of attendees at an event has little impact on its success. But I still want to list upcomming activities with the hopes that we'll have decent turnouts and some quality social time together, and, some good ole black smokin' times!

So please cast a vote, and I'll do my best to make 2009 better than 2008 was. I don't plan on moving out of the area, but I'll always accept help organizing an event. If someone wants to run with something, please don't be shy. Post your idea, plan it out, and we'll always do our best to make a good showing :).

Thanks all,

- Sam

Max is right about the fact that anyone can get something started. Even if its a local deal with a few trucks, its still fun. The big events aren't the only events that can be fun. I've started a couple hooters hangouts in the past. I'm not sure if its true still and how to set it up, but used to be that $10 would get ya a pic of your rig with the hooters gals in/on it. I've been swamped with a new job with rotating schedule and house repairs/yard work, and the truck was in the garage for over half of the year.

So, lets get some stuff going. We all like fun, right? The 4th of july parade in greeley used to have a corvette club drive through as an entry, how bout a tdr entry? How many towns have parades? Most all the little towns around here(greeley) do. We all know $4+ per gallon fuel isn't fun, that where some of the smaller local events come into play to get us out and having fun-while putting aside some quarters for the bigger events. If we want to do some burnouts, I know a tire shop that has reasonably priced used tires to burn, while saving your good tires for the road, mud, or snow. I can even get a load of busted pallets for a bon fire if someone can host one.

All of the above.
Different folks will show up at different events. Few if any will show up at every event. No problem.

I hope I can make some of the events. I'm still hoping to move back to Colorado (visiting in Colorado Springs now) as soon as possible. I still have my RMDTR sticker in the back window. :) It is faded though.

I liked the ATS Summits. They were a combo of dynoing, seminars, eating, chatting, etc. I also liked the RMTDR Christmas parties. I'm not as into the "All Diesel" get togethers. I mean absolutely no offense to the Powerstroke club and I think it's cool that we can all get together at times. I just like the camaraderie when it's just the Dodge/Cummins trucks because that's what I have and what I like. Sorry. It just seems like there are no RMTDR only events anymore.

I do understand what you guys are saying, honestly I do. And I don't take offense to it regarding the CPSC.

I think what has happened is that everyone has just gotten so busy, and is trying to stretch their dollars nowadays, and truck club events get pushed down on their list of priorities - unless it's some big thing such as Truck Fest. It is easier for those of us who plan these events to get together as a large group of diesel truck folks rather then just a certain brand. Our Dyno Days would not be the biggest ones in the country if we did not include all brands. Plus I like and enjoy being around so many of the guys and gals from all the diesel brands, it just makes it more fun. It seems like at events, the PSD folk end up sitting together, the Cummins folk sit together and the Dmax folk sit together anyway, so that brand specific talk goes on a lot. Alan and I just try to mingle with everyone.

It does not bother me one bit, though, when you guys have a RMTDR event only. Alan and I crash it anyways.

And actually it's a good thing that I like you Cummins guys so much - since now I'm married to one. ;) I still think it now sounds like Alan's truck has an upset stomach (gas) when it is running though. I hold true that my 7. 3 sounds better. :-laf

LOL. Now it sounds like a "tractor" as my wife puts it! You make some good points. BTW, I really like the little Calvin sticker on your window! I've seen your Excursion at the Truck Fest.

LOL. I had them on my Excursion - both sides - one year, but I took them off because it's the vehicle we drive to church and I didn't think it looked so nice. LOL.

But, Alan still has his on the back of his 97.

We are usually good for a laugh here and there people tell me.

A tractor? That's pretty good. I really do think that the truck sounds like its got gas. I keep asking him if he is putting beans in the tank instead of diesel. LOL.

It does run good though, and will stomp the crap outta my 7. 3. I'm excited for him to get the twins installed, get it painted and get it on the track next year. It will be a fun year for us I think. Oo.

I would also point out that it isn't just the TDR truck events that have receeded lately - my wife and I barely got to any car shows last year, and we didn't do any drag racing at all - not once. She and I have, over the last year, worked extremely hard at getting 100% out of debt (which aside from the house we have Oo. ), while also trying to have a good time... which we have Oo. . We managed to do a couple trips, including our 1-year anniversary, and, we got our '78 Ramcharger conveted over to a 6BT/518 and got it to Moab. Those were our two big events, and personally I have had very little time to actually 'attend' anything. Local gigs sure, but even trips to Bandimere for Truck Fest - didn't make it. I'm military and I've been on crew since this time last year - meaning 12-hour days, 4-on, 4-off, which means one out of 4 or so weekends mesh with the rest of the world. The time off I try to get some quality time with my wife.

We've also been trying to get into a bigger home with some horse property - huge task. Fortunately now the major projects are done, the trucks are rolling, and she and I are planning on getting out a lot more next year - it's actually oe of our resolutions. Meaning more camping, more 'wheeling, more events, and every show and dyno gig we can hit.

I'm the eternal optimist - I believe that it you plan it, they will come. Not everyone can come each time - that's the norm. But as the chapter president... if you'll still have me... I'll try to get more planned on the docket next year, and we'll have some fun.

That said, please don't reply solely on me. If there is an event, post it up. I don't have the magic crystal ball that tells me where and when all the TDR-related events will be. I'm one guy in Colorado Springs - not the events coordinator for Bandimere Raceway. I love hanging with y'all and I'm looking forward to it again.

If someone wants to go camping, and you want some company, post it up. If someone wants to wrench on your rig, post it up. If someone hears of a show, post it up. That's all I can do as well, and I will be posting every gig we try to do next year. We are definitely planning some camping and off-roading, and for sure some wrenching. I'll post up every gig we plan out for ourselves. We won't go 'wheeling alone - rules of the woods apply - go in pairs.

For those that haven't been to Moab... it's the best 'wheeling you're likely to ever do. If you think I'm trying to get your rig bashed up with huge body damage the you do not know me at all. I don't want to bash my own rig, and I definitely don't want you to bash yours. That's why we like Moab - it offers some of the very best 'wheeling in the world and it's right next door. We go in large groups and we have great spotters (myself inclulded) for those tight spaces. It is seriously fantastic fun! :D

Okay, so I'm hoping to see y'all next year and we'll have some fun.

Be good,

- Sam

a few of us on the western slope are looking at soing a dyno day in Grand Junction sometime in February. I'll post the dates when they're set but if anyone has any suggestions let me know too.

I know most TDR members are on the front range but for those that want come over the hills I want to try and do a dyno day or weekend and also go to the track on a Friday night for some head to head drag racing in GJ during the summer.
