Hey y'all, my 96 has developed a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the engine compartment, it is sporadic and not super loud but it is hard to pinpoint over the noise of the engine, but it does seem to be louder from the driver side of the motor, any thoughts???????---thanks

It's either a delivery valve sticking or the lift pump rod making noise ( forgot why it make noise something about hitting the cam lobe).

If you thinik the noise is coming from the injection pump run a cleaner/lube thru your fuel tank. That is what I did when I heard a ticking noise from the injection pump.

For the lift pump do a search for a ticking lift pump.

Try changing your fuel filter. When it starts to get stopped up it causes the lift pump to start tapping.

Yup. I'm hearing the same sort of variable noise. Man at Cummins Atlantic said he's seen many Dodges and 6Bs with noisy lift pumps. He says there is a check valve that sticks, thus causing the noise. If you're mechanically inclined, you can probably rebuild the pump yourself, but it might be easier just to replace it. I'll probably just replace mine, since it's got almost 260K miles on it. And there's a hose and o-ring and other stuff to ponder with the replacement as well.

Try these two threads: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ssion-1994-1998/204958-lift-pump-failure.html and https://www.turbodieselregister.com...on-1994-1998/207362-rebuilding-lift-pump.html

Clicking noise solved!!

changed fuel filter and noise disappeared---thanks for all your input-it is appreciated so much-Thanks
