Set parking brake

Disconnect negative battery cables on both batteries

Turn ignition key to run (to drain any remaining capacitors)

Let truck sit for 30 minutes (this is the recommended minimum)

Return ignition to OFF position

Reconnect both batteries and secure.

Turn key to run position(do not start) and depress accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor

Allow pedal to return to top position slowly

Turn ignition switch OFF

Release parking brake

Found someone who has solved the APPS problem... or so it appears!! seems to stem from rfi generated by alternator in pcm learning circuit. When we get rid of this by all of our mods, it reappears over time. This gentleman has it figured out and fixes it for nearly nothing! Dodge Ram Cummins 24V Truck Converter Clutch Cycling Repair. Check out his website!!

This sounds similar to the filter DTT sells. I have had success using the DTT filter along with a replacement APPS switch from TDR member 'Timbo' and have not had any cycling since.

After re-reading his web page he states,

The problem is actually related to the engine speed. In both cases the engine speed is between 1200 to 1500 rpm.

My cycling probably happened at that rpm but it is much more problematic when it is happening at 1800-2000 rpm. If it was happening at 1200 I'd be shocked that it was trying to lockup at such a low speed. I have had some success avoiding the cycling using a noise filter from DTT transmissions and a replacement APPS switch from TDR member TIMBO. That combo has worked well for over a year and a half. That's a long time for those new to this bug.

I also had the problem of the tc locking and unlocking just as they have described. went to radio shack and purchased a 440mf 32vdc capacitor for a $1. 29. installed across the signal and neg wire and my problem stopped and has not returned. You can follow there instructions as to wire colors and location. dont cut any wires just skin back a small amount of insulation on the 2 wires and solder the capacitor across these wires. be sure pos side goes to signal wire tape good or use liquid tape put all conectors back connect battiers and drive on.

Can you explain in more detail how you connected this capacitor? I know little about electronics but am interested in your solution. Please reply.

I gave this filter a try and it's not in my truck anymore. I'm pretty sure I had it connected the right way but it would cause my truck to go into 'limp mode' with any hard acceleration. I'd get 6 to 8 DTC codes, mostly no ecm communication and no communication between apps and injector pump, etc. I'm back to my DTT noise filter and all is well. I was kinda nervous there for awhile.

I installed both the DTT filter along with a replacement APPS switch from TDR member 'Timbo' and eliminated the cycling for a couple of years. Unfortunately it just returned. Not sure where to start but I will reset the APPS/TPS sensor and go from there. Someone told me to rework all chassis grounds on the truck. Has anyone heard of this? Aside from battery grounds I am wondering how many I am looking to rework...

Reworking the grounds is a good idea. If your Dtt filter has a capacitor in it I would change that first. I made my filter from a capsitor I bought at radio shack and have never had another problem
